TOP TEN TIPS FOR
COLLEGE SUCCESS
#1 Be EXCITED to LEARN
You Can't Learn If You're Not There
#10 ATTEND CLASS
College requires more studying than high school
Most learning will go on outside of class
About 15 hours a week in classroom
Average of 5 hours per day studying
#9 STUDY EVERY DAY
THEY WON'T BITE!
#8 TALK TO YOUR FACULTY
Attend all of your classes!!
Go to class prepared
complete all assignments
complete all required reading
If you are going to miss class, it is your responsibility to follow up with missed work, notes, etc.
Some things cannot be made up, so check your syllabus
Reviewing notes,Reading chapters
Studying for tests/quizzes
Completing assignments/papers/projects
Find your best "place" to study on campus
All full-time faculty have scheduled office hours, part-time/adjunct instructors will have contact information on the syllabus
Ask Questions
Raise your hand ! Chances are someone else has the same question you do!
Be an Active Learner
You are responsible for your learning
Participate in class as much as possible
#7 MANAGE TIME AND PRIORITIES WELL
Balance Academic Work and Social Life



Make time to study first, play later
Schedule your time and make good use of time outside of classes
Avoid wasting time "doing nothing"
Set daily and weekly goals so you know you are on track
Reward yourself with social time once your work is done

DATES, AND DEADLINES

Pay attention to announcements in your student portal
Academic Calendar
College Catalog
Student Handbook
Don't wait until the day before to cram for a test or write a paper, this will not work in college
Read the syllabus and mark test dates and due dates for assignments and projects on a calendar in advance
Keep a notebook and a folder for each class
#4 GET INVOLVED ON CAMPUS
Check out Events and Activities
Join a Club or Organization
Meet new people
Make life long friends
Attend academic opportunities outside the classroom
EXPLORE EVERYTHING!
Track your grades on returned assignments
Communicate with faculty often
Read each syllabus to see how your grade is scaled in each class
Test/assignment grades lower than a C may indicate you need assistance from a campus resource
DON'T WAIT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE, GET HELP RIGHT AWAY
Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
