University of the Philippines Baguio to Change Academic Calendar: The Perceived Advantages and Disadvantages
The poor quality and lack of innovation system are reflected in country's lack of global competitiveness. The Global Economic Forum has found that the country's lahor quality and technological preparedness and advancement is very poor despite of the relatively high college enrollment.
In this regard the University of the Philippines is one of the first universities to adopt the new academic calendar to allow greater synchronization of the Philippine academic calendar with those of other Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) universities. However, this sudden change in the academe might have brought unexpected impacts to the students and to the whole system as well.
1. What are the perceived advantages and advantages of the said shift be to the students?
2. How prepared is the University of the Philippines Baguio in adapting to the new academic system?
3. What are the possible impacts of the new academic year bring to the next graduates of the University of Philippines Baguio?

Figure 1.1 shows that all transitions are with "EDUCATION IS VITAL" because the next step to modernization will be attained by education.
Figure 1.2 shows the status of the Philippines in the Modernization ladder which is Traditional society to Transitional society.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Figure 2.1 shows the reason why the Up will change its academic calendar. It also shows where it is placed and it's a subpart of a much bigger plan.
Fifure 2.2 shows the perceived result to a bigger plan, starting with the change in the calendar system.

METHODOLOGY
The researchers used a descriptive research methodology. A suitable and designed survey questionnaire was posted and to be answered online to assess the possible impacts of the change of academic calendar to the UP Baguio community.

The survey questionnaire used in this study addressed two purposes. The first purpose was to examine the perceptions of random UP Baguio students from first to third year regarding the shift in the academic calendar. The second purpose was to evaluate the results and was able to determine the stand of the UP students.

The main advantage of this change is the educational competence not only in UP, but also the other universities who have expressed their plans to change their academic calendar.
Conclusions
The main disadvantage of this is the delayed board examinations for the graduates.
Since majority of the students who answered the survey form agreed to the said change, we can conclude that the UP Baguio community is prepared enough with this change.
A sudden change of economic lifestyle but a bigger opportunity awaits the next graduates of UP Baguio.
The researchers therefore recommend to look for further references with relation to the study for further validations.
The researchers recommends to conduct another study with a large sample size and improved research instruments to allow better results and inferences.
The researchers also suggest to give insights to political, economical and social aspects that the academic shift may bring.
