Biotic Factors
Tall Trees: Fast growing trees, get the most sunlight (the canopy)
Shrubs and understory plants: Have large leaves to absorb the little sunlight that they get
Epiphytic plants grow on the branches of tall branches, this allows them to receive more sunlight while taking nutrients from their host.

What you can do from home:
Reduce waste: Much inefficient use of wood causes much wood to be harvested from rainforests. Though a lot of this inefficient use comes from the sawmills that make the wood acceptable for sale and the way that the trees are cut down, part of waste emissions is due to careless use of wood. Many people get the idea that it will never run out, which is not true. You can reduce your impact by being constricting on how you use wood in your own house. Try finding some other way to heat your house than a wood fire or even go so far as to just wear layers when it is cold.

However, there are some problems with these solutions. There might not be a humanitarian way to go about them or the only people who can do them are the people who live in the area or are involved in the system of solving deforestation.

What you can do from home:
Reduce your demand for resources: As mentioned above the source of many of these problems is the huge demand of resources such as vegetables, fruit, coffee, and meat. Some of the fruit and native crops such as bananas, coffee, and cocoa are eating up land of the rainforest. But also meat industries in Latin America just end up wasting land. Try to buy less things that are grown so far away that can be grown closer. Buy veggies and fruit from local farms and try to minimize your demand for things such as coffee and chocolate.

Destruction and Deforestation:
Hundreds of acres of forest are being destroyed or cut down each year due to different causes. The total area per year of rainforest lost is thought to be nearly as big as Pennsylvania.

Capuchin Monkey + Flowering Trees

The Capuchin Monkey benefits from the flowers because they eat the nectar from the flowers
The Flowering Trees benefit because when the monkeys eat the nectar, their face get covered with pollen. When moving from flower to flower, the monkeys pollinate the trees.
The tree shrew benefits from the pitcher plant because it gets to eat the nectar on the plant. This gives the tree shrew its food and some nutrients.
The pitcher plant, in return, gets the shrews feces as food. It takes in the nitrogen in the feces and uses it to help it grow.
Antbird + Ecitoninae
The antbird benefits from the ecitoninae because the ants destroy insects and eat them wherever they go. The antbirds follow and eat the scraps leftover by the ants.

Phroid Fly and Leaf-Cutter Ant
The phroid fly benefits from this relationship because it gets to lay eggs in the head of the ant. Their babies will eventually grow and feed off the nutrients in the ant.
The leaf cutter ant is harmed in this relationhsip because it will eventually die a slow painful death and get its nutrients taken away.
Epiphytic Orchards and Tall Trees
The Epiphytic Orchards benefit from the relationship because they attach on to tall trees and steal the nutrients from the trees. They also get more sunlight than sitting on the ground because the trees are at a higher elevation.
The trees are harmed in this relationship because their nutrients are stolen by the orchards. The orchards act like a parasite on the tree.

Abiotic and Biotic relationships
The abiotic factors are what makes up the environment. It is the soil, water, and amount of sunlight an area receives. It also determines what kind of biotic factors there are.
The biotic factors are the organisms inside the environment. This consists of plants and animals. It is greatly influenced by the abiotic factors.
These two factors make up a complete biome. Every biome has its own unique set of abiotic and biotic factors.
The abiotic factors in the rainforest determines the biotic factors and how different animals interact with one another
Tropical Rain Forests hold great diversity in the species of trees
People used cut few tree species, choose which trees were best to cut down, and wait for full succession to occur between harvesting trees
Rise in demand for wood has led to clear cutting in rainforest areas
This causes a huge loss in biodiversity and a much longer succession time period, as well as a loss in area to harvest wood from
Tropical areas and Latin America in particular see the most rapid population growth rates in the entire world
As a result, cities become overpopulated and families move away to start farms.
Problem: there is not much suitable land for farming outside of the rainforest
As a result, trees get cut down to clear land for farming
This does not work because of poor soil quality in tropical rainforests
Mass farming: farming has changed from small scale to plantations, with this has come an uprising in demand for meats and fruits produced in tropical places, causing a need for more land.
Drug Trade: a decent portion of farming causing destruction of rainforests is the drug trade. Coca is a popular drug to grow in Latin America
Other reasons for farming on rainforest land:
The Tropical Rainforest biome holds at least 6 percent of the entire world's biodiversity within itself. Is it right to destroy such a great wonder of nature for firewood, power, food, and minerals that can only be harvested there a small number of times?
Also, the Tropical Rainforest is home to plants that are believed to have amazing medicinal properties. Some of the plants in the Rainforest are believed to have the ability to cure cancer
Converting parts of rainforest into grazing pastures has become a major cause of rainforest destruction
Cattle farmers will find a patch of land with or without forest and settle into it. After 3-7 years of cattle grazing in the field, the land becomes destroyed beyond repair or quick succession and unsuitable to raise cattle on so the cattle herders move on to find either another patch of forest that temporary farmers have settled in, forcing them to move to find new land to farm on.
As a result, many acres of trees are cleared yearly for the very wasteful process of raising cows for slaughter.
Converting rainforest into cattle grazing land:
Conclusion:
Please consider purchasing this trip so that you can learn more about the biome of Tropical Rainforests and the amazing biodiversity that exists within them. Even learning about the culture of the place will be involved. Lastly, remember that even if you choose not to go, there is something that you can do to reduce the destruction of Tropical Rainforests!
