Santa Claus Who was the real Saint Nicholas? He was a gift giving Catholic saint! Ol' St. Nick was revered Bishop of Myra(Roman town in what is now Turkey) He was known to help
the poor He wore a red bishops cloak He wasn't fat! he died on December 6th Elaborate feast held on this day Children recieve gifts in their shoess How did he become the idea of St. Nick
change into Santa Claus? Netherlands kept the celebration,
but called him Sinterklaas The Dutch tradition had elfin assistants
and rode horses over rooftops He also traveled down the chimney! Sinterklaas came to America with
the Dutch in the 17th and 18th centuries Our version of Santa Wears red clothing and a red hat,
black boots and a black belt He goes from house to house on
his sleigh that is pulled by eight flying
reindeer. The leader is Rudolph the Red nosed reindeer! He lives at the North Pole with Mrs. Claus, the elves,
and his reindeer He enters the house
through the chimney He gives presents to kids who
behave nice all year round! What other countries
celebrate Santa? China they call him Shengdon Laoren England They call him Father Christmas France Pere Noel Germany Some parts of Germany celebrate Christindl Italy They call him Babbo Natale Spain They call him Papa Noel Morocco Black Peter Japan They call him Santa no ojisan Sweden They call him Jultomten Netherlands They call him Kerstman Finland They call him Joulupukki Russia

"Ear Fell" The fell looks like bunny ears,
but people believe they are really
