GENERATION GAP what is generation gap? Generation gap is a popular term which is used to describe wide differencs in culatural norms between members of a younger generation and their elder. this happens when older and younger people do not understand each other due to different experiences. Case Study
CHINA The father, in his worn-out clothes, grew up during famine and revolution. His main hope has simply been to survive. The 1950s, 1960s and 1970s: Baby Boomers vs. the Older Generation
Generation X : Born: 1966-1976
Sometimes referred to as the “lost” generation, this was the first generation of“latchkey” kids, exposed to lots of daycare and divorce. Known as the generation with the lowest voting
participation rate of any generation, Gen Xers were quoted by Newsweek as “the generation that dropped out without ever turning on the news or tuning in to the social issues around
them.”

Generation Y :Born: 1977-1994
Kids that were more technology-wise, racially and ethnically
diverse.
Kids were also often raised in dual income or single parent
families have been more involved in family.

Generation Z:Born: 1995-2012
Gen Z kids will grow up with a highly sophisticated media and
computer environment and will be more Internet savvy and
expert than their Gen Y forerunners..
( Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc...). \ The son, in jeans and smarter shoes, has grown up during peace and expansion. His hope has been for a better life. Now for the first time, there's a problem. Meilian, 30, and a journalist, bluntly stated: ‘I have nothing in common with my mother. We can’t talk about anything. She doesn’t understand how I choose to live my life.’ 70s 80s 90s What has changes throughout the different generations? 1. Use of language.
Nowadays, people tend to use slang more often -> division of generations -> little or no communications

2. Technological Influences.
Better technology -> rely -> lack of communications skills -> draw them away from their friends and family members = widen the generation gap. Make friendship with them -> Let them express all their feelings to you -> build up a better relationship -> learn to respect.

Creating a common space (examples ; Family Gathering, Family Day) -> Get to do things together -> More bonding time -> Closer together

Be a good listening ear -> listen to what their problems were and lead them with the correct direction -> learn from their mistakes -> trust How To Prevent Generation Gap? THANK YOU for your kind attention! They don't often have a talk with each other.Parents now spend more time in the office,so they don't have much time to stay with their children. As time passes, they both feel that they don't have the same topics to talk about.I want to tell parents to be more with your children, get to know them and understand them. And for children, show your feelings to your parents. They are the people who love you.So tell them your thought. In this way,you can have a better understanding of each other. Why Is There A Generation Gap Between Parents And Children? Generation gap is the major reason today why parents and children are moving away from each other. As we all know, the environment has changed, so has the life style and with that changes the mind of children. Today's generation doesn't like others interfering in any of their personal matters, they don't like parents ordering them, and if they try and tell them what's wrong for them, they misbehave with their parents. The question arises that, what is the reason behind all this. It is the parents' mistake or is it cause of the generation gap. Generation gap is basically created by the people themselves. They don't talk to their children and share their own points of views with the children. The point is that the parents are just so busy with their work and jobs that they don't have time for their family and their children. And they realize it when there has a huge distance between the kids and the parents. The point is if parents give their children some time from their busy schedule then there would be no such problem. At times you need to act as a friend to your children in order understands them more nicely. In 1969,a Gallup poll found 74% of Ameticans thought there is a generation gap.

In 1979 (10 YEARS LATER),CBS/New York Times poll found that only 60% saw a generation gap.

Today ,30 years on,a Pew Research Center
poll finds that 79% of Americans think that
there is a generation gap. The Pew poll finds that Americans of all ages believe that differences in values make up most of the generation gap. Differences in morality, ethics, politics and beliefs/religion are frequently mentioned by younger people, while older folks are much more likely to say there are big differences around a sense of entitlement—that younger people want everything handed to them. "In times of profound change,
the learners inherit the earth." Eric Hoffer,1951 case study
