Children are placed in ability based groups.
Groups may be changed depending on objective.
Your child will be independently applying strategies they have learned while reading a “good-fit” book if they are not meeting with the teacher.
Most kids at this time are no longer learning to read, they are reading to learn.
They will be applying skills to a story. Ex: Retelling the main ideas in a story, identifying cause and effect within a story.
We must work together to help your child develop life long reading habits.
Good Fit Books (IPICK = I pick a book, Purpose?, Interest?, Comprehend?, Know (most of the words)?)
Read more challenging books with them at home.
Remember let them select their own reading material but encourage a variety of texts.
Children will be writing a variety of texts this year including narratives, opinion essays, and expository writing.
