By Matt and Elim Music in Canada Celine Dion Tragically Hip Newworldson The Recording Industry Nova Scotia Provincial Anthems Prince Edward Island Newfoundland and Labrador Alberta Quebec Ontario Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea-bound coast,
may your mountains dark and dreary be.
For when I am far away on the briny ocean tossed,
Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me?

The sun was setting in the west,
The birds were singing on every tree.
All nature seemed inclined to rest
But still there was no rest for me.

I grieve to leave my native land,
I grieve to leave my comrades all,
And my parents whom I love so dear,
And the bonnie, bonnie lad that I do adore.

The drums they do beat and the wars to alarm,
The captain calls, I must obey.
So farewell, farewell to Nova Scotia's charms,
For it's early in the morning and I'm far, far away. Farewell to Nova Scotia Fair Island of the sea,
We raise our song to thee,
The bright and blest;
Loyally now we stand
As brothers, hand in hand,
And sing God save the land
We love the best. Prince Edward Isle, to thee
Our hearts shall faithful be
Where'er we dwell;
Forever may we stand
As brothers, hand in hand,
And sing God save the land
We love so well. Upon our princely Isle
May kindest fortune smile
In coming years;
Peace and prosperity
In all her borders be,
From every evil free,
And weakling fears. The Island Hymn When sun rays crown thy pine clad hills,
And summer spreads her hand,
When silvern voices tune thy rills,
We love thee, smiling land.
We love thee, we love thee,
We love thee, smiling land.

When spreads thy cloak of shimmering white,
At winter's stern command,
Thro' shortened day, and starlit night,
We love thee, frozen land.
We love thee, we love thee
We love thee, frozen land. When blinding storm gusts fret thy shore,
And wild waves lash thy strand,
Thro' spindrift swirl, and tempest roar,
We love thee windswept land.
We love thee, we love thee
We love thee windswept land.

As loved our fathers, so we love,
Where once they stood, we stand;
Their prayer we raise to Heaven above,
God guard thee, Newfoundland
God guard thee, God guard thee,
God guard thee, Newfoundland. The Island Hymn Flatlands, rollin’ plains
Clear blue skies, prairie rains;
A tapestry of colours in the fall.
Snow covered mountain tops,
Wheat fields, canola crops;
Alberta has it all.

Alberta is calling me.
Home sweet home, it’s where I’m proud to be.
Alberta is calling me.
Livin’ right I’m feelin’ free.

First Nations built the land
Fur trade, way back then.
We’ve come a long way since that.
Agriculture, lumberjacks,
Oil derricks, natural gas;
There is no turnin’ back.

Culture diverse as it can be.
This is the land of opportunity.
Welcoming friends, night and day.
That’s the way I pray Alberta stays. Alberta Comme le dit un vieil adage:
Rien n'est si beau que son pays;
Et de le chanter, c'est l'usage;
Le mien je chante à mes amis
L'étranger voit avec un oeil d'envie
Du Saint-Laurent le majestueux cours;
À son aspect le Canadien s'écrie:
Ô Canada! mon pays! mes amours! As the old proverb says:
Nothing is more beautiful than one's country;
And to sing it is the tradition;
And mine I sing to my friends
The stranger looks with an envious eye
Of the St. Lawrence the majestic course;
At its aspect the Canadian sings:
O Canada! my country! my love! ô Canada! mon pays, mes amours Give us a place to stand
And a place to grow
We call this land Ontario
A place to live.
For you and me
With hopes as high
As the tallest tree
Give us a land of lakes
and a land of snow
And we will build Ontario
A place to stand, a place to grow
Ontari-ari-ari-o ! From western hills,
To northern shores.
To Niagara Falls,
Where the waters roar.
Give us a land of peace,
Where the free winds blow.
And we will build Ontario
A place to stand, a place to grow
Ontari-ari-ari-o ! A Place to Stand, A Place to Grow
(Ontari-ari-ari-o!) Celine Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec. She is the daughter of two musicians and the youngest of 14. At the age of 13, Dion emerged into the music business after her manager and future husband, Rene Angelil, heard her demo tape. He mortgaged his house to finance her first album, which seemed to pay off, for the very next year, Celine had won the Musician's award for Top Performer and had also won the Yamaha World Song Festival in Tokyo. Throughout the 1980s, Dion's fame continued to grow, but she felt like she needed a change. So at the start of the new decade, Dion released her first English album, "Unison". She also went on to do many other big projects as well, one of them being recording the soundtrack for the new Disney movie, "Beauty and the Beast". Dion continued to release both French and English albums. She then decided to take a short break from her music, in which she gave birth to her first child, Rene-Charles Angelil. After her two year break, Dion continued to release many new albums, and winning many more awards. She has a new album coming out soon, called "Water and a Flame". Celine Dion is one of the most well known Canadian artists in the world. She has released a total of 25 albums, and has also had many hit songs, including "My Heart Will Go On", from the movie "Titanic". The reason she has had so much influence in music is because she portrays her emotions, and her passion, into her songs, and is able to touch the hearts of everyone listening. One song that had that kind of impact on people was "The Prayer", featuring Andrea Bocelli. She does not have a specific style of music; her albums vary from pop, to rock, to gospel, to contemporary, to classical.
