Danielle Key and Patrick Tran At many camps Blob jumping is in play as a fun and enjoyable
activity. One person sits at the far end while another jumps down causing the other person to catapult into a large parabola. You probably wouldn't think of it at the time but you really couldn't have this much fun without quadratic equations. Even while at camp and during activities you still use parabolas without even realizing all the benefits of math in your life. Snowboarding is an intense and adventurous sport, but it wouldn't be nearly as interesting without all the jumps and flips. Professionals and amateurs again have quadratic equations to think for all of the fun and success. Parabolas really make snowboarding unique and challenging by upping its skill level and making the sport what it is today. Snowboarding The Hoover dam is located on the state line between Nevada and Arizona in the Black Canyon of the Colorado river. The hover dam is one of the tallest dams in the country. Named after President Hoover, it is a large source of hydro power. The design and structure gives it it's neat parabolic shape and stability. This shows that parabolas can form renewable ways that can benefit us both economically and environmentally. Hoover Dam Gymnastics If you think about it a basketball court has a very important and intricate layout full of parabolas. Foul shots and three-point shots desperately depend on the accuracy of the court. If just one line (especially the three-point line) was off it could harshly affect the outcome of the game giving one team an unfair advantage. The precise measures of the parabolas on the court help to keep the game fun and fair. Many athletes use these parabolas all the time. Without them you could not get an accurate count of the point values for the game. Basketball Courts Whenever you are hurrying down the halls at school and quickly stop to get a sip of water, you probably scarcely think of what affects this. A major thing is parabolas. It seems odd but we really over look the importance of parabolas here. In this situation what would you do without this quadratic equation. You couldn't drink the water if it was shot straight up in the air, and you couldn't drink it shooting left to right without getting soaked. This is one parabola that affects us almost everyday. Water Fountains Rainbows are great examples of parabolas. They match the definition perfectly. Every time that you see one it automatically brightens your day. Any won who's ever witnessed a rainbow clearly understands it's impact This reflection of light has intrigued many people and can
be broken down into a unique quadratic equation. It is very iconic and plays a large role in many people's life. Just like other bridges such as this, many people use it for transportation and for leisurely activities such as fishing. In this case people also use it as a climbing experience.
Simple parabolas in bridges and architecture really bring the finished product to life and help to ensure the safety to those who use it. Parabolas are huge in gymnastics in nearly every event. Parabolas and quadratic equations make up all of what gymnastics are about. To some this may not mean much but when it comes to gold medalists and champions you can come to the conclusion that parabolas really do affect us all day and everyday in a huge and beneficial way.
