Transcript of Independent Reading

First, let's review the words we went over yesterday. Then, we'll complete the exercises on the back using the STICKS!!
Independent Reading

Builds innumerable skills. Can you think of a better way to learn grammar? Would you rather read a book you choose or diagram sentences? Please take this time to read seriously. It is teaching you a lot *IF* you choose a book at the appropriate level of difficulty for you (talking to all of you who endlessly read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, here.)

15 minutes silent, authentic reading. Make the time count.
Cause and Effect in Plot
Cause and effect is a model for plots that propels the action forward. Consider the causes and effects from the novel and supply the missing elements.
Section 6
Yes, P-Dubs, we are going to read!!
Consider the scene in the story where Elie faces selection. Compose a journal describing how you would've felt during this experience.
Written Work
Think, independently, about some criteria that define high quality WRITTEN work in this classroom.

What do we need to do to really impress each other in our written work?
NIGHT: Allusions and Meaning
an allusion is a reference to a well known person, place, event, literary work, or work of art. Allusions deepen meaning. For each allusion included in the chart, comment on how the meaning of the subject is changed or deepened by the allusion.
Which root word is this?
Turn to page 85. Remember, at this time Elie and his father are being evacuated with the remainder of the camp of Buna due to the fast approach of the Allies. Unfortunately, they have unwittingly chosen to go with the Nazis when, if Elie had stayed in the infirmary with his father, they would've been shortly rescued.
