• Process downtime costs Wiring A380 was troubled by complexity of the cabin wiring (530 km or 330 miles, 98,000 wires and 40,000 connectors). The German and Spanish Airbus facilities continued to use CATIA version 4, while British and French sites migrated to version 5. This caused overall configuration management problems. Wing Crack On January 2012, cracks were discovered in fittings within the wings. On 8 February 2012, the checks were extended to cover all 68 A380 aircraft in operation. EADS speculated that the cost of repairs would be over $130 million which should be covered by Airbus. Engine Qantas has revealed that the final repair bill for the Airbus A380 that suffered a near-catastrophic engine failure on take-off from Singapore in 2010 will be US$144 million, or more than one-third the catalog price of a new aircraft. Deliveries were postponed from the fall of 2005 to the spring of 2006.
In the fall of 2006, install hundreds of miles of wiring cables into the fuselage of the aircraft in Toulouse, failed to fit. No choice but to halt production postpone deliveries of the aircraft for two years, and redesign the wiring system.
