The Trailer

The Characters
The Lawyer (prosecutor):
The lawyer role it to give evidence that sent Andy to prison. The lawyer is betrayed as as aggressive person with a very strong personality. The camera angle on the lawyer shows his power and importance in the court room.
Andy Dufresne's wife:
Andy's wife part is having an affair with her lover, also the victim of the shooting that Andy is is blamed for.
Andy Durfresne's wife lover:
Having an affair with Andy's wife, also the victim of a shooting that Andy is blamed for.
Andy Dufrense:
Andy's role is the defendant, he is accused if killing his wife and lover. The new person in prison, the prisoner with hope and optimism. In the court room Andy is betrayed as a powerless person, no one cares what he claims happened that night. Andy's face when the verdict is given shows the shock in Andy
All the prisoners:
To make the prison look full.
Warden Norton:
To be the person in charge of the prison and to lay down the ruls and to give out punishments. To introduce the new prisoners into the prison. The Warden is betrayed as the boss who is serious about what he believes.
Captain Hadley:
The person to give the punishment to the prisoners. Hadley is betrayed as an aggressive and confronting person. He doesn't like any behaviour that he sees ad not good enough to him.

Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding:
Is the voice over and explains what is happening though out the trailer. He is also Andy's friend and he helps guide Andy.
The Guards:
To enforce the rules and punishments that the Warden sets.
Brooke Hatlen:
To take care of Jake the bird.
Jake the bird:
To keep Hatlen happy.

The court room:
The layout of the court room is white walls, with the judge sitting at the front of the room, with Andy sitting to one side of the jugde, in the stand. Then there is the jury on the side of the room. The lawyers are seated in the middle of the room, the prosecutor at one bench and Andy's lawyer at the other. This is the court room where Andy was sentenced, the importance of this setting is to show the seriousness of the crime that Andy has been charged with. This tells us that the movie is based around crime and punishment.
In the cells in the prison:
The layout of the cells is three levels of cells, there are rails on the walk ways outside the cells. There are bars on the cell doors. The importance of this setting is to show the life and the environment of the prison. This tells us that the prisoners don't have much freedom and that there is structure to the prison.
In the court yard of prison:
The layout is there are towers with walk ways connecting them, they are looking down onto the court yard. There are fences all-round the court yard. The importance of this setting is to show how life at the prison is and how they are always being watched. This tells us that the prisoners don't have much freedom and that there is structure to the prison.
Andy's wife lover's house:
This setting is only showed very quickly, there is a cupboard with stuff on it and a picture on the wall. The importance of this setting is to show us that Andy's wife was having an affair. Also to show us where the crime that Andy is being accused of was committed.
The Cafeteria in the prison:
The layout is there are a lot of table, there are bars and guards surrounding the tables. The importance is to show that the prisoners are allowed to interact with each other but still have limitations to that. This shows that the prison has structure.
A tree in a field:
This setting is only showed very quickly, there is a tall tree with grass surrounding it. There is a stone wall next to it. There is Red walking towards the tree. This shows the importance of Red having freedom and that he can go where he wants.
The lake where Andy escaped:
The layout of the setting is it is raining, Andy is standing in the middle of the lake. This setting shows the importance that Andy is eventually free from the prison walls. The lighting and the rain, tells us that it isn't all good because Andy still has to be carefully of what he does.
Inside the prison walls where Andy escapes:
The layout is Andy sitting on a pipe in the middle of two walls. There is a single window where Andy sees the thunder, lighting and the rain. The importance of this setting is to show the determination that Andy has to escape.
The ocean:
This setting is only showed very quickly. It is just a view of the ocean. The importance of the setting is to symbolism freedom.
The door to the Wardens office:
The setting is only shown very quickly. The layout is the glass on the Wardens door being broken by Haldey. The importance is to show that the guards don't stand for anyone not listening to them and the brutality of the guards.
Mise-en-scene
The trailer shows, what will being happening in the movie. The trailer shows that Andy is committed of killing his wife and her lover. It shows that Andy is a man of hope and determination. Also that Red tries to be a good friend to Andy and shows him that you can't have hope in prison. Freedom is a big theme in the movie and the lack of freedom that Red and Andy have. Even when they are free but they aren't.
Sound and Music
The music at the start is very fitting because is hows the emotion, of Andy which is very sad and sombre. The music then changes into a more relaxed and uplifting tune. This shows that Andy has hope and determination while in prison. Though out the scene the sounds of everyday prison life is heard. The buzzer of the cell doors unlocking and the cells doors opening. The sound and the music has an impact of the overall scene by making you feel what Andy is feeling though out the scene.

Inside the prison wall where Andy's escapes:
The angle is eye level. The shot is eye level. This shot betrays Andy as being determined.
The court yard in the prison:
The angle is bird's eye. The shot is extreme long shot. The shot doesn't betray any of the characters. It shows all the prisoners just walking in the court yard.
The court room:
The angle is bird's eye. the shots are long shots, close-up and mid shot. The close up betrays the lawyer as an agrressive person with a strong personality. The mid shot shows, the shock on Andy's face when he gets sentenced.
The lighting is all natural light that is entering the windows.
It affects the mood because it doesn't make it a happy or sad one.
