Understanding SEO What is it?
Why do we do it?
How do we do it? Search Engine Optimization What is it? Why do we do it? Check out Kelsey's blog post "Why Writing for Your Users is the Best SEO" How do we do it? Any time you do a search with Google (or Bing, or any other search engine), that search engine decides the order of search results. Paid It's a bit of a mystery How does Google decide? Search Engine Optimization is how we boost our rankings in the search results. High ranking = top of search results = more visitors How often do you make it to page 7 of the search results?

How often do you even look past the top 5? Organic Google sends out crawlers (sometimes called bots or spiders) to find, analyze, rank, and index web pages.
They use a proprietary algorithm to rank pages and determine search results.
Outside of Google, no one knows exactly how it works or what they look for. But... They give us some hints Content is king (or Queen or Sultan or Grand Poohbah)...it's important.

Keywords - what are people searching for?

urls and metadata - huh? Uniform Resource Locator url "data about data" metadata Metadata describes the content and context of a webpage.
The most important metadata for you to think about is the Page Description.
The Page Description gives Google, and users, a summary of what the page is about. Write for the user

Use headings

Strive for authenticity

Show how we're unique It's the location of your webpage urls should be short and use relevant words.
This gives Google, and users, helpful information about the page.
