How to write a GREAT hook! Leads/Hooks for Narrative Writing Question Definition I’m sure you know what it’s like to feel as though everyone is staring at you and your face turns red. So let me tell you about an embarrassing moment that happened to me. Addressing the reader directly Have you ever been scared and excited at the same time? If you have, you’ll understand what I’m going to tell you about. If you haven’t, I think you’ll enjoy this story. Inspiration, a sudden brilliant idea, was the reason for what happened that day. Exclamation I’m sure you know what it’s like to feel as though everyone is staring at you and your face turns red. So let me tell you about an embarrassing moment that happened to me. KEEP OUT! The sign warned trespassers, but we didn’t take any notice of it. Words in capitals, bold print or italics My mom had told me a thousand times to clean up my room. ExaggerationHyperbole "What in the world did you do that for,” yelled my brother. Quote Thought shot Ouch! I’m on the hard, cold sidewalk. What happened? How did I fall? Onomatopoeia (word sounds like meaning) Snap! Crackle! Pop! That was the sound of the dry twigs beneath our feet as we ran through the woods at the end of our street.
