that is important because when
a character does something it is either based on reason or emotion. Goldings believes that everyone
is naturally evil but society makes them good. In the book very few
of the characters are naturally good. Everyone either acts good or evil. Ralph: leader, rules, civilization, rescue colorful with good - order and
civilization Simon: Christ figure, civilized, helpful, gives food to Piggy, "sacrafice," innocent, stands up for
good. Piggy's Glasses Reason vs. Emotion reason, wisedom, law and order, the ability to survive with intelligence Beast fear, because of beast the others descend into savagery, and it represents their own destruction through their emotional choices. Civilization vs. Savagery Civilization: rules, leaders, rescue,
