It allows us to see the faces of our ancestors, view scenes from the greatest turning points in history, and showcase today's events for tomorrow's people. From history books to newspapers, photos have been published to expose the events from long ago to today. It spread Past & Present For example, Mathew Brady sent people to take pictures of the Civil War thinking he could make a profit off of the pictures. His pictures spread the ugly realities of the Civil War to the public, who for the first time were exposed to the actualities of the war. It changed art Portraits People no longer had to go to a painter to have a self portrait done for them. Photography provided a cheaper and faster alternative to portraits. At first, the camera did not take very high quality pictures. But nowadays, it is extremely rare to have your portrait painted for you. It is much more convenient and cheaper to take a picture. A New Way of Looking at Things Photography has provided a way for us to see things from a different perspective. This helps us understand and possibly solve the greatest questions of our universe. To illustrate, images from the Hubble Space Telescope have helped us understand our universe and the galaxies neighboring ours all through the magic of photography. Ever since the first camera was patented on May 4, 1840 by Alexander Wolcott, it has made a real impact on us. Maybe not so much back then, but now we watch movies, television shows, look at pictures, and take pictures daily. If you actually think about it, photography has genuinely made an impact on our world.
