8 Aspects of Religion.
Rituals:
There are many rituals in Christianity.
One of the most important ritual is Baptism. This is important to christians because it symbolizes the 'washing away' of original sin as well as identifying the person as a believer in Christ.

Another important ritual in Christianity is prayer. For Christians, prayer is a communication with God, a way to experience the love of God, spiritual growth and a way to overcome fear and darkness.

Symbols of Christianity:
-Cross
-Bread
-Wine
-Fish
Sacred Texts:
The bible is the sacred text of Christianity. It contains many stories and accounts of Jesus' life.
Stories:
Christians have many sacred stories. These are in the bible. Some of them are:
-Moses and the parting of the red sea
-Parables of Jesus
-Noah's ark
-Abraham + Isaac

The cross is an important symbol to Christians because it represents Jesus' death and resurrection.
Individual experience
In Christianity, people demonstrate their faith by going to church. They do this either once a week or daily. People also participate in private and public prayer.
Social structure:
Within each church that follows the Christian faith, there is a hierarchy. In the Catholic church, the head of the church is the pope, then followed by Bishops, monks, priests and workers within the church. The Arch Bishop of Canterbury is the head of the Church of England.
Ethics:
The Christian faith follows the 10 commandments. These are:
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.
Texts:
The Islam religion follows teaching from the Koran. They are the teachings of Muhammad.
Symbols:
The crescent moon and star is believed to represent the worship of the sun, moon and sky. It was not traditionally a symbol of the Islam religion, but as it's popularity spread across Turkey, it became recognized as their symbol.
Stories:
The story of Muhammad is one of the most important stories to Muslims. Muhammad received a revelation from God, through the Angel Gabriel. When he began to preach the messages he received, he was made to leave Makkah. When they returned years later, they established Islam definitively.
Individual experience:
A common practice of Muslims is to not consume alcohol or pork and the requirement of women to dress modestly.

Prayer is also important. It is required that Muslims prey at least 5 times per day.

Muslims also participate in fasting during the month of Ramadan every year. It is viewed as a way to cleanse the soul of desires.
Rituals:
Pilgrimage:
This is one religious experience that every Islam follower is expected to make at least once in their lifetime. Pilgrims travel to the religious city of Mecca and perform many rite and spend their days in devotion to God.
Purification:
Before performing certain rituals, Muslims are expected to perform purification known at 'Wudu'. This involved cleaning the hands, feet, face and arms with water.
Animal sacrifice:
Muslims believe that God allowed us to kill animals to eat, therefore we need to mention God every time an animal is killed. During important occasions, Muslims donate part of the meat to the poor.
Ethics:
Muslims follow a set of teachings in the Koran similar to those in the bible. They are;
Worship only God.
Be honourable to your parents.
Do not be wasteful
Don't engage in 'mercy killings'.
Do not commit adultery.
Do not kill unjustly.
Care for orphaned children.
Keep promises.
Be honest.
Do not be arrogant.
Islam lacks a form of structure similar to the Catholic Church. Muslims believe in direct communication to god and feel that everyone should have equal access to God.
