Transcript of Canada as a region

By Abi , Kirti and Jorde Canada as a Region Transportation Bodies of Water In Canada we are surrounded by a lot of river, lakes, bays, seas and ocean. Some of the water that surrounds Canada is Arctic Ocean (is northwest area), Pacific Ocean (southwest) and Atlantic Ocean (southeast). Some of the water that is found in Canada is Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Ontario, Labrador Sea, and Hudson Bay e.c.t. Physical Regions Physical Characteristics Canada is divided into 7 physical regions. The regions are the Appalachian Region, Canadian Shield, Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Lowlands, the Arctic Lowlands, Great Plains, the Arctic Region (Arctic Archipelago) and the Mountain Cordillera. In the Appalachian Region, it has sandy beaches, rich farmland, thick forests and a rocky shore. The Canadian Shield has thick forests and freshwater lakes. The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence lowlands are flat and close to the Canadian Shield. The Arctic lowlands are mainly flat, marshy and have a little vegetation. The Great Plains are grasslands, famous for grain farming and a wealth of natural resources (Minerals, Oils and Natural Gas). The Mountain Cordillera have thousand-year-old trees, valleys that are ideal for fruit growing and rainforests. The Arctic Region (Arctic Archipelago) has mountains, frozen oceans, dark and extremely cold winters and short summers. Throughout Canada, they use different types of transportation in different regions. One type is air transportation. It is throughout each provincial and territorial capital. Another type is railways .The major railways are the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railway each having operations all through Canada. There is no connection with British Columbia other than a train ferry. Another type of transportation is waterways. The busiest is the port of Vancouver. Waterways are used through Ontario, New Brunswick, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Quebec. There are also ferries that go to Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and St. Pierre and Miquelon. There are canals and the main routes are the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes. Human Regions Political Divisions of the Region
There are many different religions and beliefs in Canada. The people also speak different language like Punjabi, Spanish, Italian, English, French, and many more. English and French are the main languages in Canada. The religions in Canada are Catholic, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, and more. People have lots of backgrounds like France, Spain, India, China, and more. These are some religions in Canada. There are 13 political divisions of the region (Provinces and Territories)The Territories are Northwest Territories, Yukon and NunavutThe provinces are British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec,New Brunswick,Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador The End Resourses Kalmna,Bobbie Canada the land, copyright 2002 wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_in_Canada http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/countries_canada.htm#Nunavut

Oil and gas are major natural resources in our region of Canada. These natural resources are petroleum products. In Canada a lot of people have vehicles, which means they need oil to keep their vehicles running. Oil is used for many engines, like jets, cars, trucks, airplanes, and more. Oil and gas is mainly used in Canada. Natural Resource Oil: Water Energy: Water energy is produced by water dams. Dams create electricity when there’s flowing water and wind. Water energy only has 1 problem, it could flood homes that are close to the water. Water energy is used in rivers or where there’s flowing water. This is what water energy is. Renewable and Non-renewable:

In Canada renewable and non-renewable are 2 different natural resources. Renewable means that it could be replaced. Non-renewable means it cannot be replaced. The examples of renewable resources are plants, trees, grass, and more. Non-renewable resources are oil, gasoline, fossil fuel, and more. These are renewable resources because if you take the plants out carefully, it will grow back (if you take it out by not taking the roots out). These are non-renewable because when it’s gone it can’t grow back like a flower. These are some examples of renewable and non-renewable resources. These are natural resources that are used in our region of Canada. Religion Climate in Canada Everyone thinks that it’s always cold in Canada but it’s not. Canada has four season winter, spring, summer and fall. Winter is from November 22nd to March 22nd and that’s when it gets cold in Canada. Spring is from March 22nd to June 22nd and that’s when it’s a cool type of temperature. Summer is from June 22nd to September 22nd and that’s when it gets very hot. Fall is from September 22nd to November 22nd and that’s when it gets cool because you’re heading into winter http://www.pc.gc.ca/apprendre-learn/prof/itm2-crp-trc/htm/ecozone_e.asp#no3 Ecozones of Canada There are 15 different Ecozones in Canada. Arctic Cordillera Ecozone

The Arctic Cordillera is located in the eastern part of Baffin and Devon islands. Also it takes up most of Ellesmere and Bylot Island. It is surrounded by ice caps and multiple. The climate is very cold. In winter it’s usually -25 degrees Celsius to -35 degrees Celsius and in summer it’s 5 Celsius. In the Arctic Cordillera it’s permanently ice and snow. A common animal in the Arctic Cordillera is the polar bear. In the marine there are walrus, Harbour seals, Harp seals and Killer Whales. This is the Artic Cordillera Ecozone. Northern Artic Ecozone

The Northern Arctic Ecozone is located partly in Nunavut and Northwest Territory and Northern Quebec. The climate is dry and cold. The temperature in winter is about – 35 degrees Celsius and in the summer the temperature is about 5 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius. In the land herbs and lichens grow in the northern Artic. The different types of animals in the northern artic are: Caribou, Polar Bears, Wolves, Artic Fox, and many others. In the marine there are Walrus, Harp seals, and Killer Whales. This is the Northern Artic Ecozone. Southern Artic Ecozone

The Southern Artic Ecozone is located close to the Hudson Bay also is partly located in Nunavut and Northwest Territory. The temperature in the winter is -30 degrees Celsius and in the summer it’s about 10 degrees Celsius. The climate is very cold and dry. In the Southern Artic Ecozone there are dwarf birches trees, willow trees, and more. The different animals that live in the Southern Artic are moose, wolves, grizzly bear, and etc. The different kinds of species in the marine are seals and whales. This is the Southern Arctic Ecozones. Atlantic Maritime Ecozone

The Atlantic Maritime Ecozone is located in the front of Saint Lawrence River; it is also a part of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edwards Island. The climate is cool and moist. The temperature in the winter is about -2 degrees Celsius to -10 degrees Celsius and in the summer it’s about 18 degrees Celsius. The different animals that live in the Atlantic Maritime are moose, black bear, white-tailed deer and etc. In the Atlantic Maritime there are sugar maple, red spruce, yellow birch, and more. In the marine there are Harp and Grey seals, and different types of whales. This is the Atlantic Maritime Ecozone. Boreal Cordillera Ecozone

The Boreal Cordillera is located near the Canadian Rocky Mountain in British Columbia and partly in the Yukon Territory. The climate is cold in winters and warm summers. In the winter the temperature is about minus degrees Celsius to -27oC and in the summer it’s about 12o C. There are white spruce, white birch that grow and etc. The different animals in this Ecozone are woodland caribou, moose, grizzly bear and more. This is in the Boreal Cordillera Ecozone. Boreal Plains Ecozone
