sqlReports 4 is the next generation of the PowerSchool customization. It allows admin users to create tabular style reports using SQL, system variables, and user defined parameters. Orignally developed by Dean Dahlvang in 2009, and after a major upgrade (February 2012), sqlReports was included in PowerDataSolutions custom report bundle.

Matt Fruend (sisresources.com) has taken sqlReports to a new level and developed sqlReports4. This addition is offered for free, but Matt's company offers some for-fee additions that really make sqlReports4 a vital part of your PowerSchool system.

You will need to be able to create simple SQL statements. That skill is critical for sqlReports 4 to be an effective piece for your district.
Creating A Report
Click the Create a new sqlReport
Enter a report name and title
Optionally, select the parameter 1 value after the report
Select the report group. To create a new group, type the name of the group.
Enter a description
Enter the query
Best practice is to build your query in sql developer first, then paste it over after you verify that it is working.
Build headers
Empty <th></th> containers will appear. Replace "Column1" with the name you want for the header.
Exporting And Importing Reports
Open the report you want to export in edit mode.
Right Click "export this report" at the bottom of the page and save as to a known location
Click the sqlReports hyperlink at the top
Click "Import a new sqlReport"
Paste the text from the exported file
Optionally, you can change the name and title
Submit
Locate your report that you imported.
Go to the parameter tab and name the parameter to be used
Click submit
Change the Where statement to include the parameter.
Where grade_level=%param1% AND enroll_status =0
Student Selection
Student Selection will allow you to make the students listed the current selection. There are two ways to do it and you can use either one or both.
Go to the parameter tab and name the parameter to be used
Click submit
Change the Where statement to include the parameter.
Where grade_level=%param1% AND enroll_status =0
Tip For using the current school
In the "WHERE" part of the statement, you can use schoolid =~(curschoolid)

That will only create results from the current school the user is running the report from.
sqlExports is a powerful way to get your data out of PowerSchool. With it you can export almost any data you need out of PS and export from tables you see in DDE and tables you don't see in DDE, such as health, incidents, extended tables, and more. You can query the database before doing an export and either do a one-time export or schedule it to run hourly, daily, or weekly. There are also a wide range of output methods - the export can be to the report queue, it can be saved to a local or network drive on your PS server, it can be FTP'd to a server, or included in an email.

A one-time purchase price of 10 cents per active student in the district. Support and access to updates are included for the first year. After the first year, support and access to updates can be purchased for another year at 5 cents per active student in the district.
