Child Labor during Industrial Revolution and Now
Child Labor
When the industrial revolution first came to Britain and the U.S., there was a high demand for labor. Families quickly migrated from the rural farm areas to the newly industrialized cities to find work. Once they got there, things did not look as bright as they did. To survive in even the lowest level of poverty, families had to have every able member of the family go to work. This led to the high rise in child labor in factories. Children were not treated well, overworked, and underpaid for a long time before anyone tried to change things for them. But it still affects millions of kids worldwide these days.

Child Labor
What is the difference between
Then & Now
Child Labor during Industrial Revolution
* Child labor in 1800's wasn't necessarily looked down upon as "wrong." It was the way of life for some children who needed to earn money to support their poor families.
* Children worked much more dangerous jobs than they do today. They were forced to work in mines and textile mills where there was always a threat of danger.
* Child Labor during Industrial Revolution took place more in Europe and America. Since the Industrial Revolution grew, industries owners needed workers.
Child Labor NOW
* Today, Child labor is definitely consider bad and wrong and there are many activists and protester who are strongly against child labor in the industry.
* Today the jobs are still dangerous, but they have become a slight bit safer. Most child labor jobs today take place in factories that make small children's toys or clothing. Some children are forced to work outside.
* Most of these jobs today take place in foreign contruies, such as China or Bangladesh.
Similarities of
What are the
Child Labor Then and Now
?
Today, like in the 1800's, Children are still forced to work at ages as young as five. The conditions and rules that children are force to live under, have changed, but not drastically.
The health care, and survival necessities are not efficient at all.
The children are force to sleep wherever there is a space available.
The facilities that the children are forced to work in are neither hygienic nor safe.
I think that Child Labor
is wrong. Whether its in the 1800's
or today, it should never take place
under any circumstances.
A child should have the
opportunity to go to school instead
of working in a factory.
