A comparison between two unlike things using like or as
A comparison between two unlike things without the use of signal words
Objective: Today we will identify the differences between a simile and a metaphor.

Language: Create your own Similes and Metaphors.
Example: You're as pretty as a magnolia in May.
Example: The paint brush was a magic wand in his hand.

Definition- figure of speech that uses contradictory terms in conjunction, which means words that don’t appear to go well together.

Definition: Big exaggeration, usually with humor
* I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse!
* You snore louder than a freight train.
* He sleeps like a log.

Definition: words that imitate the sound they denote
Definition: Giving something nonhuman human qualities
The leaves danced in the wind
The sun smiled upon us
The sky was sad.
Definition-Idioms are word combinations that are idiotic! Crazy! Nuts! etc.
In other words, idioms have meanings that can't be figured out by looking up the words in the dictionary.

Icing on the cake
Definition- use of the same consonant at the beginning of each stressed syllable in a line of verse;
Examples: Sally Sold Sea Shells by the Sea shore
Swift as a coarsing river
With all the force of a great typhone
mysterious as the dark side of the moon
