By: Jayden Hairr ARCHERY THIS AND THAT Sequence 1 2 3..... What is the history of Archery? First, the prehistoric people invented the bow and arrow. Ancient Egyptians were the first people known to use the bow and arrow extensively. Other people who used bow and arrows early included Assyrians and Persians. by the A.D. 900's, the Turks had developed advanced archery equipment. In the 1100's, the cross bow had become a popular weapon in Europe. In 1346, the battle of Crecy, 7,000 English archers routed a much larger French force that included over 1,000 armor-clad knights. By about 1501, firearm had replaced the bow and arrow as the chief weapon of English infantry. The first archery organization in the US was the United Bowmen of Philadelphia, founded in 1828. In 1931, the International Archery Federation (FITA) was founded to have tournaments. How to Shoot an Arrow First, determine your dominate eye. This is the more accurate eye in aiming and judging distances. Next, use a bow that matches your dominate eye. If you use something that doesn't match your eye, your arrow will go haywire. After that, make sure you have the appropriate protection. Certain pieces are essential for both a more safe and enjoyable experience while practicing archery. Next, make sure you are about the length you want to be. Your body should be perpendicular to the target and shooting line. Now, nock the arrow. Point the bow towards the ground and place the
shaft of the arrow on the arrow rest. Attach the back of the arrow to the bow string with the nock. After that, use three fingers to lightly hold the arrow on the string. Next, raise and draw your bow. Now, aim at the target and release. Q and A Q: Does archery effect your health?
A: Kind of. I mean, it gives you sharp eyes.
Q: Does what bow you use improve the distance of the arrow?
A:Yes. Some bows are more powerful.
Q: How do you find out the correct length of your arrow?
A: It needs to be about the length of your arm.
Q: Which is better; vanes or feathers?
A: At camp we use feathers, but it really doesn't matter.
Q: What age should I enroll my child in archery classes?
A: We start our campers on their first year,
which is about ages 6-7. Compare and Contrast One of the differences between riflery and Archery is that archery is older. it started in about 900 B.C., and riflery was created as a sport in the 1500's. Something that is the same is that both archery and riflery were both used for weaponry. In wars, Indians used Bow and arrows to defend theirselfs. Also, contries like Britian, France, and England used guns in wars. Another thing that is different is that guns are more powerful than bows and arrows. Problem and Solution Dear Geena Davis,

I have a problem with my release. I have a recurve bow that is about 3 feet and 8 inches, and have a problem with my ring finger dragging on the release. In fact, there is a blister on my ring finger because of this.

Thanks,
Billy Bob Joe Q and A Q: What is the best age to start archery?
A: Whenever you are ready.
Q: What type of equipment is needed to start?
A: Bows, arrows, a target, quivers, armguards, and hand or finger protection.
Q: What makes archery a family sport?
A: Just about anyone can play.
Q: Any other archery tips?
A: Be sure to have 6 arrows, never go into an archery field while others are shooting, and have a good time. THE END Archery. . . through the ages THE END Have you ever wondered what archery was first used for? In the 900 BC's, archery was usually used for killing buffalo, deer, and dove. The indians used to ride horses and shoot buffalo at the same time! That takes skill! Archery was also used by the indians to shoot each other in wars. Usually, they were overpowered by the guns and other weapons used by enemies. Archers used to less efective in a battle than an army's main forces.
