Spread of Islam
Sunni and Shi'ite
Here are some things that they disagree about:
they believe since Muhammad was the leader that the new leader should be passed down from his family line
They think that the leader should be elected
They believe that they were created with free will
They believe that Allah created the world
Imams for the Shi'ite are very important leaders
Imams for the Sunni are simply just leaders in Friday prayer
Imams are the leader in a mosque prayer,
Testimony of Faith
You have to recite:
"There is no god but Allah, and Muhammed is his prophet.”
To fulfill this, you have to pray 5 times a day in the direction of Mecca.
By giving charity you either give: time, food, or money to help the poor.
In Islam, people fast during the months of Ramadan (June-July)
You can't eat or drink during the day.
But there is time in the mornings and in the evenings.
Pilgrimage to Makkah
If you are able you want to travel to Mecca at least once in your lifetime. Because, Mecca is the holiest city for Islamic people.
You go during the month of Ramadan and perform a series of rituals.
This is the holy book for Muslim people. People following the Islam religion believe this book is a revelation from God.
Sunna is the way of life prescribed as normative for Muslims on the basis of the teachings and practices of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and interpretations of the Qu'ran.
A mosque is a place of worship.
It's where Muslims will go and pray.
Allah is the Islamic God.
Hijrah means migration. And this is specifically talking about the trip that Muhammad and his followers took from Mecca to Medina in 622.
A Ka'aba is an ancient structure made of stone that was built and re-built by prophets as a house of monotheistic worship.
Both trace their origin back to Abraham.
The two of them have a place of worship
In every instant there's dying and coming back around. Muhammad said,
is a moment
, a pouring that refreshes and renews itself so rapidly it seems continuous,
as a burning stick taken from the fire looks like a golden wire when you swirl
it in the air, so we feel duration as a string of sparks
Allah created the world
Has many of the same prophets
Descend from Abraham
Both give charity
