Transcript of Photosynthesis
The Photosynthesis Song..... SUCH FUN!
Light DEPENDENT and Light INDEPENDENT
The whole darn process doesn't happen all at one time. The process of photosynthesis is divided into two main parts.
is called the light
. This reaction happens when the light energy is captured and pushed into a chemical called ATP.
is called the light
The second part of the process happens when the ATP is used to make glucose (the Calvin Cycle).
The light reaction happens in the
membrane and converts light energy to chemical energy. This chemical reaction must, therefore, OBVIOUSLY take place in the light.
What is it? (Even though you probably already know)
Well, photosynthesis is the process by which plants and other things make food (sugar)!
The process of photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts, specifically using chlorophyll, the green pigment involved in photosynthesis.
It is a chemical process that turns
, especially sugars
As well as plants, many kinds of algae, protists and bacteria use it to get food. Photosynthesis is very important for life on Earth. Most plants either directly or indirectly depend on it. (thank you wikipedia)

stage (the dark stage) aka.... Calvin Cycle
The dark reaction takes place in the
within the chloroplast, and
converts CO2 to sugar
. This reaction doesn't directly need light in order to occur, BUT it does need the products of its buddy, the light reaction (ATP and another chemical called NADPH).
The dark reaction involves a cycle called the
Calvin cycle! WOW!
This is when CO2 and energy from ATP are used to form sugar.
The location inside the chloroplast where each stage takes place...
