Job Description
SCHEDULE
Works any hours. Come and goes as they please. could be 3am, or 5pm. They come when you want them to.
Chain Of Command
As in most workplaces, there's a chain of command in the film makeup artist world. For any given film, one key makeup artist, also called the makeup designer, is in charge of the whole makeup department. He or she sets work schedules for all of the film's makeup artists and keeps an eye on the department's budget, also collaborating with the film's art designer, hair designer, costume designer, set designer and lighting designer to achieve the aesthetic that the film's director wants. Below the key makeup artist is the senior makeup artist; he or she oversees the other makeup artists to ensure continuity from take to take. The rest of the makeup artists are in charge of actually applying and touching up makeup for all members of the cast on a day-to-day basis. There are typically also assistant makeup artists, who deal with makeup-related chores and who provide assistance to the regular makeup artists.

make-up artist ensures that models, performers and presenters have suitable make-up and hairstyles before they appear in front of cameras or an audience. This may be in a variety of settings, including film, television, theatre, live music and photographic shoots.
Make-up artists interpret the make-up requirements of clients to produce both a creative and technically accurate visual representation. This may involve very basic make-up for a TV presenter through to more complex period make-up or special effects. The work involves creating images and characters through the medium of make-up, hairstyles and prosthetics in accordance with a brief.
