Transcript of How magnets are used on rollercoasters

How Magnets Are Used On Amusement Park Rides The main uses of magnets on theme park rides is for breaking and propelling the cart. They are relatively new techniques that are mainly used on high-speed roller coasters. Uses The First Ride to incorporate magnets was the Flight Of Fear in kings island Ohio in 1996, it used magnets to help slow down the roller coaster at the end of the ride. The first roller coaster to use magnets in propulsion was Millennium Force built in 2000 at Cedar Point Ohio. Origin "How Are Magnets Used in Roller Coasters?" attracting to each other and so when the cart goes over the magnet it is drawn to it and slows down when it passes it, This is repeated multiple times to fully stop the roller coaster. Breaking Magnetic propulsion is used on roller coasters when a sudden acceleration is needed. An example of this is on the Mummy roller coaster when the cart shoots up into the mummy's mouth. magnetic propulsion is when 3 magnets first attract each other and then when the cart has passed over the first 2 magnets the 3rd magnet is pushed away. Propelling Some of the Benifits of using magnets on roller coasters are:

-Require less replacement than ordinary brakes
-energy saving
-Can launch a roller coaster quickly instead of a climb up a hill
-can safely brake and launch even if power is cut Benifits Of Using Magnets Ellis-Christensen, Tricia, and O. Wallace. WiseGeek. Conjecture, 14 Aug. 2012. Web. 29 Aug. 2012. <http://www.wisegeek.com/how-are-magnets-used-in-roller-coasters.htm>.
