Transcript of Amendment 28

Gun Rights Amendment 28 In order for our amendment to be proposed, two-thirds of both Houses of Congress must approve. In order for our amendment to be ratified, three-fourths of the state legislatures must approve the proposal. We Propose Amendment 28
Section 1: The second amendment to the
Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed. Section 2: The possession of a firearm is illegal unless the carrier is a member of the Armed Forces who is actively serving this great nation of the United States or specified bureaucrats who are part of the police force. Section 3: Possession of a firearm by those not specified in Section 2 will be subject to the punishment of each individual state legislature Amendment 2: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Constitution was written for a society that is vastly different than that of the present day. Back at the time of the Constitutional Convention, firearms were deemed necessary for daily function. The use of guns has transformed over time and proper restrictions are necessary to benefit the good of the whole. The Second Amendment gives the American people the right to have a firearm but does not properly account for the modern day ramifications. Therefore, the Twenty-Eight Amendment that we propose is necessary to maintain order as a legitimate means of government. NRA flaws:
1) Competitive shooting: Promotes use of firearms for recreational purposes that can lead to the increase of gun possession within American homes.
2) Hunting is promoted by the NRA and is immoral because animals should not be killed for sport. However, for those that believe killing for sport is moral, giving up doing the activity is necessary for the good of society as a whole. Brady Campaign supports Amendment 28:
Wants to protect "you, your family, and your community with the passing of sensible gun laws
Would make it harder for convicted felons, the mentally ill, and others like them to get guns in the first place
Advocates requiring criminal background checks before gun sales, banning military-style assault weapons, and strengthening law enforcement's efforts to stop the illegal gun market Other reasons to ratify 28th Amendment:
Over 13,000 deaths last year from gun related injuries
Over 270 million guns are privately owned in the USA
Columbine incidence-innocent high school kids murdered (15 dead, 21 injured)
Aurora incident-innocent families watching a movie were gunned down (14 dead, 50 injured)
