Moon Cycle The side of the moon that is the earth is not lit up by the sun. At this time the moon is not visible. Sun New Moon Full Moon The side of the moon that is lit up by
the sun is facing the Earth. The entire moon
is lit up by now http://www.classbrain.com/artaskcb/publish/article_51.shtml Waxing Cresent A small part of the moon is lit up now.
Less than 1/2. That part is slowing getting bigger. 1st Quarter One half of the moon is now lit up by the sun. Waxing Gibbous More than half the moon is lit
up but less than whole. Waning Crescent The moon is not quite lit up all the way by sunlight.
The moon is gradually getting smaller. Wanning Gobbous The moon is not quite all lit up by the sunlight.
The moon is starting to get small. 3rd Quarter Halfway lit up by the moon.
