American Football History evolved from rugby
the first game was played on November 6th 1869
Universities of Princeton, Coloumbia, Harvard and Yale formed first rules
=> Intercollegiate Football Association

1880: Walter Camp changed major rules and became known as the "Father of American Football"
1892: William Heffelfinger was the first paid football player
in 1905 62 schools met to discuss rule changes because of too many injuries
=> NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) was founded 1906 rule changes:
play time from 70=> 60 mintues
four downs to go 10 yards
neutral zone along the line of scrimmage
field goals are worth 3 and touchdowns worth 6 points
field length was lowered to 100 yards NationalFootballLeague was established in 1920 => group of professional teams
trying to solve problems of the sport Today: The championship is played between the winner of the AFL and the NFL => Superbowl Basics Field
size: 120 yards long and 53.3 yards wide;
endzone at each end of the field lines: every 5 yards

4 linebackers lead the defense and call plays
2 different types:
outside and middle linebackers
try to tackle the RB, sack the QB or cover a WR cover wide receivers secondary or defensive backfield 2 types:
