Multiplying / Dividing Significant Figures
When multiplying or dividing numbers, count the numbers of significant figures. The answer can not contain more significant figures than the number multiplied or divided with the least number of significant figures .
Accuracy & Precision
Accuracy-The accuracy of a measurement is how close a result comes to the true value. Determining the accuracy of a measurement usually requires calibration of the analytical method with a known standard.

Precision- refers to the closeness of two or more measurements to each other.
Subtracting Significant Figures
Your answer can not be more precise than the least precise measurement
Steps:
Count significant figures in decimal part
Add or subtract the traditional way
Round answer to the least number of of places in the decimal portion

Accuracy and Percision have alot to do with significant figures. Without accurate or precise measurements it would be extremely hard to pull out the significant figures.
Because it tells readers about the precision of obtained data.
Tips to Remember
Leading zero never counts
All numbers that are leading and trailing always count
