Performance Pattern #1:
HABITS
Specific, automatic behaviors that are performed repeatedly and relatively automatically.
Often integrated into more complex patterns that enable people to function on a day-to-day basis.

Routines
Observable, regular, repetitive patterns of behavior that provide structure for daily life

Performance pattern #3:
Roles
Characteristics of roles -
Dynamic throughout the lifespan
Create a sense of purpose, identity, and structure
Learned through a process of socialization and acculturation
A person's identity results from the roles in which the individual or others see him/her.
Think of a role that can be disrupted by a disability.
Performance Pattern #4:
Rituals
Symbolic actions with spiritual, cultural, or social meaning, contributing to the client’s identity and reinforcing values and beliefs.
Think of a ritual that you take part in and reflect on why it's significant.
The goal of having performance patterns is establishing LIFE BALANCE (aka OCCUPATIONAL BALANCE).

Context

Environment
- the terrain, location, or "backdrop" of occupational performance
The domain of Context & environment include the following aspects of occupational performance:

Virtual context
Cultural context
The customs, beliefs, activity patterns, behavior standards, and expectations accepted by the society of which the client is a member

May be influenced by ethnicity, values, political aspects, education, employment, and economic support

Personal context
Age, gender, socioeconomic status, education status, and group membership and participation including volunteer work

Features of the individual that are not part of a health condition or health status

VIRTUAL CONTEXT
Interactions in which communication occurs by mean of airways or computers and an absence of physical contact
Includes simulated, real-time, or near-time environments

temporal context
The experience of time as shaped by engagement in occupation
Stages of life, time of day or year, duration, rhythm of activity, or history

environmental Factors
Physical environment - natural and built conditions and details of those settings
Social environment - the presence, relationships, and expectations of persons, organizations, and populations
