Transcript of The Future of Community-Based Services and Education

Anticipated Changes
Technology Advancements in Adult Education
Financial Sustainability for Community Based Services
Restructure in Medicaid Program for long term care services
The use of Knowledge Translation in community based programs
Increase cost of healthcare and education services

Funding Options
The Affordable Care Act of 2010 addresses many provisions in funding that would allow states accessibility to funds needed to sustain long term community based services. Some of those programs include The Home and Community-Based Services State Plan Option, Community First Choice, and State Balancing Incentive Payments Program. Each of these programs are intended to increase federal funding to states for various services that target individuals who are in need of community services (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, n.d.).

Over the next 15 years, the government needs to revisit the provisions made to these programs on a regular basis to ensure that funding is made available to the states as set forth by the law under the Affordable Care Act. Other funding options for community based services and education will come from private contributors who realize the importance and need for services and education to improve the overall well-being of adults in this country.
The Future of Services
Knowledge Translation: An interactive process of exchanging knowledge between health researchers and users (Kothari & Armstrong, 2011).

Knowledge Translation will become an important part of community based services as organizations and service providers become involved in delivering health and health-related services to people within the community. Knowledge Translation will become the connection between healthcare researchers, decision makers, service providers, and the people they serve so that the real needs of the community are met (Kothari & Armstrong, 2011).
The Future of Adult Education
Flexibility in knowledge delivery due to continuous changes in technology.
Computer based tutorial learning will be important to the future of adult education
The population of adult learners will continue to grow.
Educational institutions will have to address the importance of work/life balance of its students by providing greater access to online learning
Social Media will become more powerful as a teaching and learning tool
Educators will rely on social media to engage and interact with students.
Adult learners will become more self-directed learners, relying less on knowledge received from instructors.

(Bailey, Ed.D., 2012).
The Future of Diversity
The U.S. Administration on Aging has implemented a toolkit as a guide to serving diverse communities. This 4 step process will be instrumental in future planning of community based services to ensure people of diverse populations are fairly represented within their communities.
(U.S. Administration on Aging, n.d.)
Future Legal Influences
The United States Government will always have legal influence on what type and how community based services are provided. Since much of the funding for these type of services comes from the federal government, human service organizations must follow federal guidelines as implemented by the government to obtain funds for services. Future changes made to The Affordable Care Act or Medicaid/Medicare laws will also have an effect on how services and adult education are provided within communities throughout the U.S.
Other Areas of Change
Consumer Empowerment
gaining knowledge about healthcare choices.
Medical Breakthroughs
possible cure for diseases like cancer, heart disease, and AIDS.
Care Models
Changes in care models can aid in redesigning our current healthcare system.
