The King of Egypt-Pharaoh was buried inside a huge stone structure called a pyramid. There are over 130 pyramids in Egypt. These pyramid structures have stood for thousands of years. Most of the pyramids can be found near the Nile river. Ancient Egyptian believed that if king's body could mummified after death, the king would live forever.The tombs were designed to protect the king's body and belongings.The reason why they built pyramids next to the Nile river was, so that it would be easier to get stones to the pyramid site by boat. Inside the pyramid there was a special room where the king's body and his belongings like statues, paintings and gold things were placed.Many hidden tunnels and rooms were built to trick the robbers who tried to steal things from the king's room. The great pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of 3 pyramids in Giza Necropolis.The great pyramid of Giza is one of the seven wonders of the world.The pyramid of Giza was built for king Khufu.It took 20 years to built.It is over 140 meters high.
