I'm about to show you some STOP-MOTION footage
over the PERIOD of an hour
you'll see bacteria ACCUMULATING minerals
these metals ACCUMULATE as minerals
is the BACTERIA metabolizing
One of the most PERVASIVE problems in the world today
do not have ACCESS to clean drinking water
REVERSE osmosis is a critical technique
KKKKKK
it's COST-PROHIBITIVE for many countries around the globe
KKK
this is DETRIMENTAL to the local ecology
the brine is oftentimes just PUMPED BACK out into the sea
take the water from the sea and we apply PRESSURE
we're accumulating metals like CALCIUM potassium and magnesium
This takes ENERGY producing clean water
we're also left with a CONCENTRATED salt solution

a mining industry that is in HARMONY with nature
a PLACE that doesn't have any natural resources.
this EQUATES to a $4.5 billion mining industry for Singapore
from out of DESALINATION brine
I'd like you to image a mining INDUSTRY in a way

that doesn't mean DEFILING the Earth
IMAGINE bacteria helping us do this by accumulating

Pre-viewing Questions:
Can we collaborate with bacteria?
How can we produce water in dry areas?
In desalination, what can we do with the brine (the salty solution that is left over)?
What can we recover from salt?
Post-viewing question:
What are the problems with reverse osmosis ?
What minerals can be recovered from the brine?
How much money can Singapore make off of mining brine?
Discussion Questions:
How would you explore this new technology?
What influence will this have on water supplies?
What other options are there for both mining or obtaining water?
Okay! And a little of conversation too?
