LET'S GET TO THE POINT! Visitors can review the gardens, choose the design that they prefer, and complete a checklist of the ingredients from this garden that they want to include:- Why not build several different, small show gardens that they can walk around, touch, understand and visualise? SO WHAT STOPS THEM FROM
REALISING THEIR DREAM? MONEY SO HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES AND MAKE QUALITY GARDENS ACCESSIBLE TO ALL? Q) How did people decorate their houses before this 'one-stop-shop'? LOOK AT IKEA TIME UNFAMILIARITY
HIGH CONSTRUCTION FEES FOR BESPOKE DESIGNS DESIGN TIME & UNDERSTANDING THE BRIEF CAN'T IMAGINE HOW IT WILL LOOK WHEN FINISHED EXPENSIVE DESIGN FEES UP-FRONT PAYMENT OF LARGE LUMP SUM OF CASH HIGH MAINTENANCE FEES CREATING DRAWINGS GATHERING INSPIRATION & IDEAS SOURCING MATERIALS AGREEING ON THE DESIGN CHOOSING A CONTRACTOR TENDERING THE DESIGN FAMILIARISING CONTRACTOR WITH DESIGN FORMULATING SHOP DRAWINGS & GETTING APPROVALS MAKING GOOD ERRORS CONSTRUCTION PHASE DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL ALL TAKE THEY CANT SUCCESSFULLY ASSIMILATE THEIR IDEAS CLIENT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT UNTIL THEY SEE IT IN THE FLESH! A) They used to go from shop to shop to shop buying all sorts of furniture. Unfortunately most people didn't have the vision or 'design eye' to successfully put together an interior, resulting in poorly coordinated rooms without harmony So IKEA made show rooms to demonstrate how to put their furniture and accessories together without requiring a designer. Suddenly, everyone could afford a 'designer home'. SO WHAT????? Well, why are we not doing this with gardens? If a customer can go into a showroom and choose a kitchen for their home, then why can't they go to a garden showroom and choose a garden? A house owner doesn't need an expensive, bespoke garden design. They just want a well laid-out, great-looking and affordable garden which incorporates certain key features Why must we as designers re-invent the wheel over and over? Kitchen showrooms allow ordinary people to choose from a number of kitchen designs. They can touch, feel and see them and are able to visualise it in their own home. AND THE FASHION
INDUSTRY Most people can't afford to employ a fashion designer to design bespoke clothing for them. Instead, designers re-create catwalk styles for the mass market, making them accessible to all. 1. CUSTOMERS ARRIVE AT THE PREMISES AND REVIEW THE SHOW GARDENS BY THEMSELVES. 2. THEY DECIDE UPON A DESIGN
AND COMPLETE THE CHECKLIST OF DESIRED GARDEN INGREDIENTS 4. OUR SURVEYORS VISIT THE PROPERTY, AND CREATE A FULL SURVEY OF THE GARDEN AND VILLA AND CALCULATE THE TOTAL SQUARE METRE GARDEN SIZE THE SMALL DEPOSIT COVERS
AGENT'S TIME
GARDEN SURVEY COST 5. OUR ESTIMATORS THEN PROVIDE THE CUSTOMERS WITH A BALL-PARK ESTIMATED COST, BASED ON THE TOTAL GARDEN SIZE MEETING A MEETING B THE CUSTOMER CAN THEN DECIDE GO AHEAD AND ENGAGE
IN THE FINAL DESIGN OPT OUT GO BACK TO STAGE 2
AND REASSESS 7. OUR DESIGNERS THEN TAKE THE STANDARD 3D SKETCH-UP MODEL COMPONENTS AND ADJUST IT TO FIT THE CLIENT'S PLAN, AND DESIRED INGREDIENTS

THE PLAN IS THEN MEASURED AND FIGURES FED INTO THE STANDARDISED BILL OF QUANTITIES TO PROVIDE A FINAL QUOTE 8. AGENT PRESENTS THE 3D MODEL AND FINAL QUOTATION TO THE CLIENT MEETING C THE CUSTOMER CAN THEN DECIDE AGREE TO SIGN A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE PROJECT OPT OUT GO BACK TO STAGE 6
AND REDESIGN BASED
UPON FEEDBACK 9. UPON SIGNING THE CONTRACT, THE CLIENT IS PROVIDED WITH A PROGRAM OF WORKS AND ANOTHER PAYMENT IS MADE TO COVER THE FIRST STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS THE PROGRAMME OF WORKS CLEAR MILESTONES OF CONSTRUCTION WITH ASSOCIATED PAYMENTS PAYMENTS IN ADVANCE OF WORK ENSURE THAT DEBT CANNOT BE ACCRUED BY CUSTOMER AND THEY CAN PULL OUT' AT ANY POINT WITHOUT LOSS TO COMPANY PROGRAMME CAN BE 'SET IN STONE' AND GUARANTEED, SINCE THE GARDEN HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED MANY TIMES BEFORE AND ALL PROCESSES ARE FAMILIAR Swimming pool Shade Structure Ornaments/Sculptures Furniture BBQ Lighting ? ? ? ? ?

(Tropical Style) The Mondrian Garden
(Contemporary Style) The Mirage Garden
(Desert Style) Each show garden is 10m x 10m Info. board gives plan and ingredients/material data These pink highlights indicate payment stages 3. AN AGENT :-
MEETS WITH THE CUSTOMERS
COLLECTS AN INITIAL DEPOSIT
EXPLAINS THE BUSINESS MODEL
TAKES THE GARDEN INGREDIENTS LIST
PROVIDES THE CUSTOMER WITH A TYPICAL SQUARE METRE COST BASED ON THE INGREDIENTS LIST
SETS UP A TIME FOR A GARDEN SURVEY 6. CLIENT PAYS A FEE UPON APPROVAL OF ESTIMATED COST. THIS COVERS TIME TO BE SPENT ON DESIGN AND FINAL QUOTE ...but remember they have already paid for our input so far, so we aren't out of pocket!!!! Info. board includes a quote from the designer about their inspiration for the garden SOUNDS INTERESTING, BUT HOW EXACTLY WOULD THIS WORK FOR ME AS A PROPERTY OWNER? MOST HOME OWNERS DREAM
OF HAVING A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN CLIENT CAN'T READ DRAWINGS WE SEEM TO TRY TO RE-INVENT THE WHEEL OVER AND OVER WHEN IT COMES TO GARDEN DESIGN. WHY DO WE HAVE TO CREATE AN ENTIRELY NEW DESIGN FOR EACH AND EVERY GARDEN WE BUILD? THINK ABOUT
KITCHEN SHOWROOMS... Q&A Q. WHAT'S TO STOP PEOPLE VISITING THE SHOW GARDENS, TAKING PICTURES AND COPYING THEM WITH ANOTHER CONTRACTOR? A. NOTHING!....BUT OTHER CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BENEFIT FROM THE ECONOMIES OF SCALE, BULK PURCHASE AND REPETITION THAT WE WILL, SINCE THEY ARE TRYING TO BUILD FROM SCRATCH. Q. WHAT IF THE CLIENT CHANGES THEIR MIND HALF WAY THROUGH THE DESIGN OR CONSTRUCTION PERIOD? A. SINCE ALL PROCESSES ARE DIVIDED INTO DISTINCT STAGES, WHICH ARE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE, WE WILL NEVER BE OUT OF POCKET. THE CUSTOMER IS MADE VERY AWARE THAT CHANGES/REDESIGNS/ADJUSTMENTS ARE CHARGED FOR, SINCE THE BUSINESS MODEL IS BASED UPON STANDARDISATION AND REPETITION Q. CLIENTS WILL ALWAYS WANT TO CUSTOMISE A DESIGN. HOW WOULD THIS WORK IN THIS CASE? A. ALTHOUGH WE WOULD DISCOURAGE IT, CLIENTS MAY WISH TO SELECT DIFFERENT COMPONENTS FROM THE VARIOUS GARDENS TO MAKE A SEMI-BESPOKE DESIGN. THIS CAN BE ACCOMMODATED FOR AN ADDITIONAL LUMP SUM FEE TO COVER THE ADDITIONAL DESIGN TIME. IF CLIENTS WANT A FULLY-BESPOKE DESIGN, WE WOULD DIRECT THEM TOWARDS OUR LANDSCAPE DESIGN TEAM. Q. WHY DESERT GROUP? - DESERT ALREADY HAVE AN EXCELLENT REPUTATION IN THE REGION WHICH CAN BE BUILT-UPON. -ESTABLISHED DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION ARM, WHICH CAN BE GROWN AS THE BUSINESS EXPANDS. -DESERT'S HIGH PROFILE PREMISES ON SZR WOULD BE IDEAL TO HOUSE THE SHOW GARDENS. Q. WHY DUBAI? -HIGH PROPORTION OF HIGH EARNERS WHO WANT A DESIGNER GARDEN -EXCELLENT WEATHER PROMOTES USE OF GARDENS AND OUTDOOR LIFESTYLES -THOUSANDS OF VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL 'BLANK CANVAS' GARDENS (ARABIAN RANCHES, JUMEIRAH VILLAGE, THE VILLA ETC.) THANKS! A. A.
