A calorie is a unit of energy.
A calorie is a way of describing how much energy your body is getting from eating or drinking it.
So... are calories bad for you?
Your body needs calories for energy.
Eating too many calories and not burning enough of them off through activity can lead to weight gain.
Not eating enough calories will lead to low energy.
How many calories should a middle school student consume in 24 hours?
The typical middle school student should have about 1,600-2,600 calories a day.
Kids come in all sizes and each person's body burns energy (calories) at different rates, so there isn't one perfect number of calories that a kid should eat.
What food groups should be included in your dinner?
Dairy
: Milk, yogurt, cheese.
Protein
: Beef, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds, beans.
Grains
: Bread, cereal, rice, tortillas, and pasta.

Vitamins are substances that help your body fights infection and use other nutrients.

What are whole food?
Minerals are elements that help build healthy bones, teeth and regulates certain body processes
A whole food is a food that has been processed or refined as little as possible and is free from additives or other artificial substances.
Whole foods are natural foods.
