I wish I could swim
I wish I were taller
Use wish + past continuous to express that you want to be doing a different action in the present
I wish I were sleeping
I don`t know Math, but I can study and learn
(I can change it)
We use WISH + SIMPLE PAST when we want to express wishes about present and future.
I`ve never traveled to another country. I wish I traveled
Travel = present
Traveled = simple past
Can = present
