KEEPING CAT IN ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE
In Islam, it is permissible
to keep cats in the house
because cats are not harmful
or impure.

1.The great Sahabat, Abu Hurayrah (literally “Father of the Kitten”) was so called because he used to love cats and keep them. He became well known by this name. It’s prove that keeping cats is permissible in Islam.

2.It is permissible to keep cats but it is not permissible to buy or sell them. They may be given as gifts or given away. That is because of the hadith of Abu’l-Zubayr who said: “I asked Jaabir about the price of dogs and cats. He said, ‘The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade that.’
(Narrated by Muslim, 1569).

3. Q: Is it cat fur is najis(unclean)?
A: i)Shafi'i and Hanbali schools – The cat fur off of his body is najis.
ii)Hanafi and Maliki schools –
It is sacred.

4. Q: When we are in a state of ablution, if exposed / stepping on the cat fur, whether it will void ablution or not ?
A: i)Our ablution is valid but our
prayer (solah) is void.
ii)Because one of the conditions for the validity of prayer is the body, clothes and place must be clean from the unclean.
