Transcript of Planning All Possible Pathways

Present
1. To apply to any Apprenticeship program, these are the following courses I need to take all four years in high school:
English
Mathematics
Science
Computer Science
Information Technology
I will complete these requirements in high school.

5. Since I am a visual and auditory learner, an Apprenticeship program is not that suitable for me. It mainly has hands-on training which I am not used to. It will be hard for me to understand the information while doing hands-on work.

6. Apprenticeship programs are not so preferable for me since it will be hard for me to understand the information while doing hands-on work.
Pros vs Cons
Pros:
Hands-on experience of the job
More job opportunities
Start earning while learning

Cons:
Less scholarships
Jobs with lower salaries
Meet deadlines as soon as you start the program
Future
Present
1. To apply to University, these are the following courses I need to take all four years in high school:
English
Mathematics
Science
Computer Science
Information Technology
I will complete these requirements in high school. If in case I don't have those requirements by Grade 12, I can attend College for a few years to pass the necessary requirements.

5. Since I am a visual and auditory learner, University is more accessible for me. It has more of a "classroom" experience which helps me because I am a visual learner. I understand and comprehend information through note-taking and the instructions of teachers.

6. University is preferable for me since I am used to spending long hours studying. I also am used to taking notes during class which this pathway plan encourages. I am also motivated to work hard in University because there is a lot of competition to do well.
Pros vs Cons
Pros

More chances of getting a job
More qualified instructors
More scholarships

Cons
Requires consistent hard work
High competitive atmosphere
Costlier

Future
2. University usually takes 4 years to complete to attain a Bachelor's Degree. If I want to be more skilled in my work, or get a higher pay, I can study 2 more years to get my Master's Degree or 2-3 years for a PhD.

3. University is the most costly pathway plan out of all four pathway plans. The total cost of studying depends on which University I attend. Though there is a high cost, there are financial supports that are available to assist me. Some of these include:
Scholarships
Bursaries
Student Loans
Grants
Tuition Fee Loan
Internships

4. In case I want to change my career pathway while attending University, I can apply instead as a data entry operator and can start work straight away.

8. This pathway plan won't usually be any one's contingency plan because it takes a long time to complete studies, even though you are guaranteed a good job opportunity once you complete it. Overall, it won't be my contingency plan.
University
Apprenticeship
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I will probably choose the pathway of University to attain my career goal, as a Web Developer.
Thank you!

6. College is also preferable for me since the work load is lighter leaving me time for a part-time job. Although, looking at my habits, the best pathway plan for me is University.
Future
2. College usually takes 2-3 years to complete a diploma at George Brown College.

3. College has a less cost than University but that depends on which College I attend. There are financial supports that are available to assist me. Some of these include:
Scholarships
Bursaries
Student Loans
Grants
Tuition Fee Loan
Internships

4. In case I want to change my career pathway while attending College, I can apply for an apprenticeship program and do hands-on training for the same career. Afterwards, I can go into work.

8. Studying in College as an electronics technician can be used as a contingency plan. When I want to take a break from my career, I can start my own home-based business by repairing and setting up computers.
Pros vs Cons
Pros

Easy admission process
Sufficient scholarship opportunities
Less cost

Cons
Less opportunities of finding a job
Less qualified instructions/professors
Less competition between peers

Present Goals
Hello! My name is Sharon and I'm going to walk you through my possible post secondary career pathways.
Looking at my areas of strength and my current interests, I want to work in a career related to Software Engineering and Computers. So I researched three careers in this cluster which interest me the most, which include becoming a(n):

Web Designer
Electronics Technician
Technical Support Person
Post-secondary Pathways
Then I realized that I need to form a plan so I can achieve any one of these careers. So what are the four pathways that I can take in order to achieve my goal?

--> University
--> College
--> Apprenticeship program
--> Workplace/Internship

Doing some research, I found out that I can achieve my career goals by going through the following pathways:

1. Web Designer - University
2. Electronics Technician - College
3. Technical Support Person - Apprenticeship
College
2. Apprenticeship programs usually take 4 years to complete (around 8000 working hours in total).

3. Apprenticeship programs have the least cost out of all the pathway plans. There are financial supports that are available to assist me. Some of these include:
 Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
 Employment Insurance Benefits
 On-the-job training

4. In case I want to change my career pathway, I can apply as a mature student and attend either College or University. There are opportunities in colleges and University, since I have a good technical background.

8. Entering in an apprenticeship program as a Technical support can also be used as a contingency plan so I can take a break from my career or education and practice hands-on work.
