House Activity
On the next page of your journal, you are going to draw a floor plan of your house.
It does not have to be exact, just a rough estimate of where each room is.

You can follow my example.

Once you are done, probably tomorrow, you will describe your floor plan to your partner while they try to draw it based on your description.

Today you are going to describe your floor plan to your partner. Describe it from YOUR perspective. (as if you are walking inside)

It is easiest if you pretend you are at the front door.
This will be your
COMMON REFERENCE POINT.

FS/# Quiz

I have paper for you.

Number your paper #1-10.

Our next volunteer is......

FYI - the signer will
ONLY
spell each word/number 2 times.

They will
NOT keep repeating the word.

Pay attention and get it on the first try. Don't write down your answer until they spell it BOTH times.
(this is called retention)
Now we are going to review all past unit vocabulary.

This may be boring and you may think you don't need to, but TRUST ME, you need to
.

Two weeks is a long time to go without signing.

Remember, if you don't USE it, you LOSE it!
Here's what you
are going to do:

1. With the person sitting next to you use your journals, start with Unit 1 vocabulary and sign each word. Make sure you BOTH sign it.

2. Go through each of the vocabulary lists starting with Unit 1 and ending with Unit 6.

3. When you don't remember a sign, one of you will come to the board and write the word down. No duplicates please.

4. Continue going through each vocabulary word with your partner as other pairs come up to the board to write the signs they forgot.

Now that we
have our list of words
that we can't remember,
lets go through them together.
I'm going to post a name of a student on the board. That student will make up a sentence with the forgotten vocabulary in it and sign it to the class.
Don't worry, your sentences can be simple!!
EX: COLLEGE
COLLEGE ME WANT GO-TO.
You don't have to copy these.
Giving Directions
&
Using a Common Reference Point
I am going to play a short part of the DVD from your book.
Numbers 1-3 You will see the man asking where something is and the woman describing the location.
This is more of a review rather than new information.

Numbers 5-6 are the same situation, except the woman will describe a
common reference point
. She will sign "YOU KNOW..." to establish where a particular place is.
Ex: YOU KNOW RESTROOM? LIBRARY NEXT TO.
Just watch and pay attention.
I will show you my example and sign it for you.
As you describe each of the rooms' location, you partner will draw the floor plan.

DON'T SHOW THEM YOUR DRAWING!!! :)

Once both drawings are done, we will compare to see how well you did!

Don't forget......
to sign which DIRECTION each room is. (RIGHT or LEFT)
WHERE is each room? Across from? Next to?
Approximate size of room. Big? Small?

Is anyone still working
on their floor plan from
yesterday?

If so, you have about
5 minutes to briefly
sketch it out.

BTW, the activity will
be a participation
grade, NOT your
drawing skills. :)
Copy the following questions into your journal.
(YES, this is a grade.) I will walk around to check.
You have 15 minutes.
PICTURE TIME!!!!
ASL CLUB will be meeting
NEXT WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15
after school around
4:15
to take a
GROUP picture
for the
YEARBOOK!!!!!
The Candy Bar
I am going to show you a video of a man signing a story about a candy bar. You will write a summary of what the man signs.
Write your summary on a blank sheet of paper to turn in.

Why are we doing this??

Tomorrow you will be
RE-TELLING the story in ASL!!!

We will be using the iPads. Your partner will video you signing, then you will video your partner.

WE WILL ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE iPADS CORRECTLY!!

You will use your summary from today to sign from tomorrow.
YES, YOUR PRESENTATION MUST BE MEMORIZED!!

You will SHARE the video with me on Google Drive tomorrow.
Now, Start developing your story and how you are going to sign it. You can use the same signs that the man used.

Under your summary, you need to write your presentation in GLOSS. That way you don't have to "translate/interpret" what you are going to sign tomorrow.

When the bell rings tomorrow, we are starting right away with the ipads, so we won't have time to change your summary to gloss at that point. I will give your papers back and you will have 5 minutes to practice.

YOUR PAPER IS DUE TODAY!!

If you need help, let me know!!
We need to divide into two teams.

I'll explain the instructions
To video:
Click on the Camera app.
On the right hand side, slide to video.

I am going to describe each person, then give you information about that person. Write down the information that I give you under the picture.

We will be grading this together.
There are 25 items that will be graded. Each item is 4 points = 100. I will tell you what items are graded and which ones are not.

It's DVD time!
**Hold your applause...**
Copy the following questions into your journal.
Conversation 1
1. What does Flo ask Mary after they see each other?

2. Are the kids Mary's?

3. Describe the daughter.

4. Describe the son.

5. Why does Flo have to leave?
Conversation 2
1. What did the son lose?

2. What do they look like?

3. Where does the worker go?

4. Did they find both items?

5. What does the dad say about his son? (what can you INFER?)
Where's Waldo?
First- turn in your Language in Action questions. You can leave them in your journal, I'm just doing a quick check.

You and your partner are going to be playing "Where's Waldo?" except you won't be searching for Waldo.

Your partner will find a person in the picture and describe them. You will then have to search for that person in the picture.

EX: FIND MAN BLONDE HAIR, RED STRIPE SHIRT, GREEN PANTS.
Guess Who?
* Start by picking a person but don't tell your partner.

* Your partner will ask you if your person has various types of characteristics.

* You respond with yes or no.

* Your partner will then put an M&M down on the people that do NOT have that characteristic. They should end up with your person by process of elimination.
Game Day!
Before I forget...
