Explain what energy efficiency is.
Energy efficiency is about achieving 'more with less' by utilising the energy we use, to meet our needs and avoid energy waste, to achieve the same or greater results for our homes and businesses.
Star ratings have been developed to provide consumers with an easy way of comparing the energy efficiency of different models. In April 2010 (in Australia), the star rating system has been updated for refrigerators and air conditioners to recognise super efficient products.
Discuss the importance of producing energy efficient appliances
Some appliances can cost up to 30 per cent of our home energy use. It's not only about having the right product—how you use appliances in your home can make a big difference. For example washing your clothes with cold water can save up to 10 times more energy than a warm wash.
