Evolution of the Wolf (Canis Lupus):
In 2025 (according to my formula), there will be approximately 288 wolves residing in Yellowstone National Park.
The Grey Wolf (Canis Lupus) was most likely originated in Asia. It took up residence in North America about 700,000 years ago after crossed the Pleistocene land bridge which connected the two continents at the time. The Evolutionary history of the wolf is not totally clear, but many biologists believe that the wolf developed from primitive carnivores known as Miacids. Miacids ranged from gopher-sized to dog-sized animals, and appeared in the Lower Tertiary about 52 million years ago. One of the wolf's ancestors, Tomarctus (circa 20 million years ago), had a fifth toe on it's hind leg became vestigial and is evidenced today by the dew claw on both wolves and dogs.

The Gray wolf has fur in order to keep him warm during winter. Also if temperature gets really cold the Gray Wolf can make it so that less blood goes near his skin. That helps him preserve his heat. The Gray wolf has pads on his feet which are separated from his body temperature.This keeps the temperature of the snow or the ground from transferring to the Gray Wolf and making him cold.
Wolves are technically classified as carnivores (meat eaters) however, they will eat other foods as well. Their diet ranges from big game, such as elk and moose, to earthworms, berries and grasshoppers. Yellowstone National Park has an abundance of these resources readily available to the wolf.
Wolves are rarely killed by other animals, and mostly die of natural causes, but the natural enemies of wolves may include coyotes, foxes, black bears, hyenas, lynx, and even tigers.
Grow and Develop
A couple of adult Grey Wolves can produce a litter of around 4-7 pups. The gestation period for a female wolf is about 60-63 days. Cubs are born near the end of April. The cubs remain under ground for the first
3 weeks. At about 5 weeks they are coordinated and strong enough to move rapidly away from predators into the safety of the den or to get out of bad weather. At 4–6 months of age the cubs regularly go out on the hunt with the adults and by 9 months will already have the skill to take down small prey.Cubs at this age have been known to disperse from the family group but juveniles can stay until up to 3 years and some may remain in the family pack for life. By 2 years old the juveniles are approaching sexual maturity. By 3 years the wolves are fully mature. Then the cycle restarts with reproduction.

Interacts with it's environment:
The Grey Wolf mostly resides in the forested areas of Yellowstone National Park. It prefers to use the trees and thick brush as camouflage for hiding tactics in order to stalk, hunt and ill prey.

Pups are born blind and defenseless. The pack cares for the pups until they mature at about 10 months of age.
