Transcript of Buddy Wakefield

Buddy Wakefield Born in Shreveport, LA
Buddy is currently living in Seattle, and is a man of many, many words. Awards and Achievements 2004-2005 Individual World Poetry Slam winner Career Previous Job Experience Featured on NPR, the BBC, and HBO’s Def Poetry Jam Currently signed to Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records, which has released "Live at the Typer Cannon Grand" In early 2001, Buddy left his position as the executive assistant at a biomedical firm in Gig Harbor, WA. He then sold everything he had ever owned other than his car and moved to LA to pursue his poetry career. Usually only booking
two months rent at a time. He now has three released albums and is a
world renowned poet of this generation. Buddy has been a busker in Amsterdam, a lumberjack in Norway, a street vendor in Spain, a team leader in Singapore, a re-delivery boy, a candy maker, a street sweeper, a bartender, a maid, a construction worker, and a bull rider. All before realizing his dream of presenting his poetry was
a reality. For Buddy, writing was the one activity that required no thought or effort, it allowed him to finally express himself the way that he wished people to view him. “Buddy Wakefield is a honey badger. Lions will go completely out of their way to avoid a honey badger.” -Don Beck, Theory of Spiral Dynamics is you. I chose this poem because it conveys a clear message while providing vivid imagery throughout.
I included the video of his live performance specifically because you can see the emotion he puts into his work when presenting it.

This poem can be interpreted many ways but to me, as the reader, I gather that Buddy wants people to know that no matter what happens in life whether it be good or bad, in the end there is nothing else you can do or say, other than be yourself, and accept yourself for who you truly are. Don't allow others to misinterpret your own self image, because after all it is YOUR self image, not theirs. Information Man Current life Wakefield continues to make his living through his poetry and performance. In addition to touring the country solo, Wakefield has also been a core member of several traveling poetry groups, including 2007's Solomon Sparrow's Electric Whale Revival, 2008's Junkyard Ghost Revival, 2009's Elephant Engine High Dive Revival and 2010's Night Kite Revival, where he shared the stage with poets such as Derrick Brown, Anis Mojgani, Andrea Gibson and Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz, among others. As of April 2012, Wakefield has performed his poetry in every state in the U.S. except "Montana, Mississippi and North Dakota."
