Transcript of Website manual

Adding a
news article
or an
activity

So just as it says, enter the
title of the article
here
here we need to specify if it is
"News"
or
an "
Activity"
we can also display it on top of the news and activities page by ticking "
Highlighted"
If it is an activity,
we HAVE TO specify
start date
and
end date
. Specify the same date if it's a one day activity.
*This date also will be used to order the news items on the website (latest by date are displayed first).
If it is an activity,
whatever you put in
this box
is going to be displayed instead of the
"start and end date date"
, so for example "End of this year". So use this box to display
uncertain dates
. The box above however have to be filled in anyway, because it's used for ordering
Every news article (and preferably also every activity) should have a featured image). Click
"set featured image"
to insert it.
The featured image will be displayed everywhere, where the article is present on the website, so for example:
on top of the article
on the news and activities page
Here you can select if the article is
related
to a AWEPA
programme
,
members
or another
news
article/activity.
Editing the contents of the article is very similar to editing a word document, you can use the "
kitchen sink
" to do it. However, it looks really different on the editing screen (what you see below) and on the actual website. To see how it looks on the website you can click "
Preview changes
"
Click here to add media (images, documents) to the body of the article
Give the file a
meaningful title
and copy it to the
alternative text
box (this text is displayed instead of the image, if for some reasons it can not be displayed).

You can also give image a
caption,
which is going to be displayed below the image.
Select the image alignment;
Set Link to
media file
if it's a PDF, and to
none
if it's an image;
Choose the size (usually
Medium
is the best).
If you click "
edit",
you
can change image dimensions, crop it and assign media tags to it
don't forget to click
update
after you made any changes
click "
choose from the most used media tags"
and choose an appropriate media tag(s)
scale of crop the image.
if you scale the image here the full image is still stored at the server and takes valuable space, so never use this function to scale down really big images
Editing the image
If you want to upload a new file or files (images, PDFs, Microsoft office documents, etc), you need to click on Upload files
You can select as many files as you want from your computer or drag and drop them directly on this screen
Adding media files
"kitchen sink"
Main content (text) of the article
After you inserted an image you can still change caption, title, and alignment. Do not adjust the size in this way, because it won't display correctly in the Internet Explorer. First click on the
image
and then on the
small icon
in the left top corner of the image
You will then see this editing screen:

Visit AWEPA website

to add a link you can just type it manually or click

Tick "

Copy content from English
"

now give article a
french title

By now you should have a french article published, which is an exact copy of the English one, but does not have any featured image yet
So if you want to copy a featured image from the English article, click "
overwrite with English content
", then click "

Hiding a featured image
To hide a featured images from any page or news item add the following code to the Text part of the WordPress editor:

Script hiding the featured image

* you can also find this code snippet on the server in the website folder
Managing news & activities after publishing
After the upcoming activity takes place (the date is today or sometime in the past) WordPress automatically makes it a past activity. And that's good.
However,
if a news article about this activity gets published
, the
activity
itself should be
deleted
and the
news item should be marked both as "News" and "Activities
"
As a result the news item gets displayed both as news and an activity
Removing the anniversary logo

-go to appearance/widgets/footerbar
- open the last text widget
-remove the selected text from "//1.replace logo" till "/2. start carousel"

-select a file to upload;
-click "upload"
- copy the link and send it to the person who needs the file;
