Art History Commissioned by Napoleon III in 1860, the Opéra Garnier took 15 years to build, and is still not completed today. Opéra Garnier The building idea was created by a contest won by Charles Garnier He was an unkown at the time The Opéra remains unclompeted because of inturruptions during the building process such as the 1870 war The Opéra Garnier, is located at Rue Halévy, Paris, France The Grand Staircase stands at 98 ft. and is made entirely of marble The Building Though one of the largest theaters in the world it seats less than 2200 At 197 ft. the stage can accomodate up to 450 actors/actresses Box #5, also known as the Phantom's personal box is never sold The chandelier surrounded by the Chagall Painting is the legendary chandelier that fell in the story of the "Phantom of the Opera" The Grand Foyer
