On the right is an annotated copy of the lyrics to Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum.
The song is about someones girlfriend being in a bad mood and her boyfriend is singing about how immature she is being and how he prefers her when she is happy.
"Mardy bum" is repeated in the song. It is slang for someone who looks upset/moody, and is usually applied to children to show how immature she is being. The chorus is repeated which tells us that their private jokes are the only thing getting them through the bad times, their reconciliation stats from cuddles in the kitchen and leads to the bedroom but its hard to remember these good times when she is in a bad mood. This tells us the relationship they have and what they are both like.
The songs musical style, lyrics and narrative structure fits together. The lyrics explain the relationship between a couple when the girl is being moody. The music compliments as it is upbeat as the boyfriend is trying to make her happy. When the beat gets fierce it is when the lyrics are explaining that he is trying to be reasonable and explain why he has been late, but she isn't listening to him due to her mood and she accuses him of not caring and it annoys him enough to start fighting again. This creates a narrative structure and makse the musical style and lyrics to link.
Emotion of the song
If you were sat listening to this song with a group of friends, not concentrating on the lyrics, the song would make you feel happy due to the tune being upbeat. On the other hand, if you were sat on your own listening to this song concentrating on the lyrics you would it has negative connotations, "Pulling that silent disappointment face, the one that i cant bear" but it is still light hearted.
The tone of Alex Turners voice is very calm which relates to the lyrics as he is stating that he prefers his girlfriend when she is not moody, but due to the calmness he comes across sarcastic, for example when he says "Oh i'm in trouble again aren't i?". When it gets to the third verse the tone of his voice gets more fierce which shows that he is annoyed. This also relates to the lyrics as in this verse he is trying to be reasonable with his girlfriend but she wont listen to him due to her mood and accusing him of not caring so it makes him want to fight again.
