Which film more effectively represents Shakespears original play? Why?
1996 Romeo and Juliet
Accuracy to the original play:
Main dialouge
Main scenes although shorten
Differences to the Play:
verona beach
Gate crash the party
Dialect is change to be more modern
Guns replace the swords
some characters are given names or given different names
Balcony scene is different
Romeo sees Juliet alive before he dies.
Costumes are modern
Conclusions
The 1968 film more effectively portrays the original Shakespear play. It is the most accuratee with dialouge, plot, and setting. It was some what adapted to modern times but kept all the scenes in the play.
1968 Version
Strengths:

Accuracy with the play:
Takes place in the city of Verona, Italy
clothing and costumes
Setting
Ending (Death in the Tomb)
It followed the Original Play as close as possible.
The differences to the Play:
Many lines were ecluded to fit the time frame
Act 5 scene 2 is ecluded
