Transcript of Cell City

Mitochondria are the power houses of the cell. They participate in cell respiration, and generate ATP from the extracted energy of sugars and fats with the help of oxygen. A power plant operates in a similar matter because it takes fossil fuels (or split atoms) in order to produce electricity for the town.
The Cell as a Town

Endoplasmic Reticulum
Smooth ER:
The smooth ER creates lipids, carbohydrates and proteins as well as detoxifies drugs and poison. This is like a processing plant, or a factory which does the same thing to make consumer goods. Without the smooth ER No lipid based steroid hormones would be produced and it would not be able to detoxify substances so liver would fail when drinking to much alcohol and death would follow. Fats would also not be made.
Rough ER

The ribosomes in a cell are like Gordon Food Service in a city. Gordon Food Service provides food for a town.
Without ribosomes in the cell the cell would have no where to synthesize proteins.

The rough ER is where the ribosomes carry substances to be held and be prepared for shipping. A shipping company does the same thing. Without the rough ER substances would not be transported to the Golgi Apparatus.
Located in the nucleus, this is where ribosomes are synthesized and given specific instructions on how to carry out their duties. This can be represented as a planning office where the members of town hall discuss and hire workers to carry out projects throughout town. Without the nucleolus no ribosomes would be made so no proteins would be made.
The nucleus is the town hall of the cell. It controls and gives directions to all the other parts of the town. The nucleus also holds the cells information in the form of chromosomes. A town hall is like a nucleus in this aspect as well because it has information and records for the town. Without the nucleus, the cell would die because it is like the brain of the cell. None of the other organelles would know what to do without the nucleus.
The cytoskeleton is a dynamic structure that is contained within the cytoplasm that helps maintain its structure and aid in transportation. A road system also aids in the transportation of people and goods.
Plasma Membrane
The plasma membrane is like the borders of a town. The border separates the town from everything else. Cytosol and organelles can't expand beyond the plasma membrane. A town is like this because buildings and people can't go beyond the city limits unless they are going into a different city or town. Without a plasma membrane, the cell would fall apart and be unable to perform any of it's functions.
Golgi Apparatus
The golgi apparatus is like a post office.The golgi uses transport vesicles to ship the products of the endoplasmic reticulum to other places in the cell. A post office is similar because it delivers the mail and packages to other parts of the city. Without the golgi apparatus, it would be hard to transport important materials and information around the cell.

Chromosomes are the law in the city, they dictate the rules and process in the town. Without chromosomes in the cell, the cell would not have away to transfer DNA between cells.

Without the mitchondria no energy would be produced causing fatigue and muscle soreness.
Chloroplasts in a plant cell are the sites of photosynthesis, where solar energy is converted into chemical energy. Solar power plants convert the sun’s energy into electricity. Without chloroplasts there would be no energy so the plant would die.
The cytosol is the fluid in which organelles of the cell reside. This is like air in the city because it occupies the empty space and everything resides in air.
Vesicles are like the mailman in the cell because they deliver proteins out of the cell. Vesicles are protected by a lipid bilayer, which would be equivalent to a mail truck that protects the mailman.
Without vesicles in the cell there is no way to to protectively transport proteins in the cytoplasm to outside the cell.

The vacuole resembles a water tower because similarly to a water tower, vacuoles store nutrients "water".
Without a vacuole plant cells would have trouble supporting themselves and ultimately their plant stature because vacuoles have structure. Aside from structure, the cell would not have anywhere to store nutrients and even waste.

If the Cytoskeleton stopped working then the cell would have no structure or stability.
If the Lysosome stopped working then there would be no enzymes, and therefore build up of materiall.
If the Cytosol stopped working, there would be no medium in the cell for the organelles and solutes to move through. The cell wouldn't be able to move any of its components to where they needed to go to maintain its survival and perform any functions.
