The basic curriculum areas/subjects are discussed at this point to assist the teacher in the process of curriculum development. The terms used are the basic terms.
These are two processes that are central to implementing a language arts curriculum.
These are also lifelong communication skills that must be continually developed.
Speaking activities include group discussions (preferably small-group discussion where there are more opportunities for each child in the group to talk],dramatization and role-playing, poetry and story-reading, conducting interviews with resource persons or during field trips are all activities that help develop skills in speaking.
Listening is obviously important as it is a skill necessary for lifelong learning and effective functioning in different situations.
Listening needs constant practice and good interaction.

Books and materials have a certain order and structure and give children a sense of sequence and of information being gradually disclosed.
In the process of reading, children are also learning to organize their thoughts in many different ways.
Teacher must also be able to provide age-appropriate reading materials that children can comprehend.
Reading is providing good models.

C. WRITING
The main reason why children needs to learn spelling, punctuation, rules of grammar is to help them communicate clearly with others through writing as well as speaking.
It is a challenging aspect of literacy development because it requires acquiring a physical skill which then can be used as means of communication.
Brainstorming is a very effective means for stimulating creative wring.
It is always important to encourage children to read what they have written and to read each other’s work.
