When working on servers you need to know the capacity of bandwidth, client and sever side scripting and components inside the web sever like CPUs.
Bandwidth is how much data can be sent and that is measured in bytes per second (bps).
Client and sever script is what you see on the web page at either end if you are looking at it through a browser you are the client and if your are writing it then you are putting it onto the server.
The web server is a device that keeps and shows web pages and a component like the CPU you need it to keep working and be fast so that web pages load up fast.
File types being downloaded from web pages
The two main file types that can be downloaded from web pages is vector and bitmap.
Vector files are smaller and have layers so things are layered up and when resizing a picture it will not go blurry.
Bitmap files consist of rows and columns that make up the image and come together as pixels but resizing a pixel image will make it go blurry.

Dial Up Modems
Dial up modems use phones cables to transmit analog signals but they are the slowest of ways to get broadband to the home by sharing the connection between the phone and computers.
A dial up modem are limited to only 56 kbps which is 56,000 bits per second
(Integrated Services Digital Network)
ISDN is used to send voice, data and video over the digital telephone cables.
It can only transfer rates of 64 Kbps which is 64,000 bits per second.
(Digital subscriber line
DSL is another way of using your telephone cable but it lets you use the phone and get data at the same time.
32 Mbps for upstream traffic, and from 32 Kbps to over 1 Mbps for downstream traffic.
Broadband is what everyone has in their house which lets them go on the internet. It is much faster and easier to use for faster and download and upload speeds. Unlike dial up you can use this all day without interruptions if someone needs to use the phone. It is normally paid monthly to providers.
CPU type and speed
The CPU or Central Processing Unit is the brains of the computer and it has it's own socket on the motherboard where the pins connect the CPU to the motherboard. But the CPU can get hot while in a computer a fan is placed on top to keep it cool while it calculates. CPU's come in different types which also effects the speeds that it can run at.
Multi CPU's in computers
For your computer to run you need a CPU but now you can have more than one CPU working at once. Now you can have dual core or quad core which mean you can have up to four CPU's in your computer working together to spread the load and make your computer faster and quicker.
Memory capacity is how much you have and how much is needed to run a piece of software. If you need to run software it will tell you how much is needed but to be able to run that you need equal or more for it to run smoothly. It will also tell you the recommended and the minimum you can have.
Security Risks and
One risk could be hacking which is by gaining entrance into your server who is not granted access too and once in they could see all the details of personal information on that server.
Viruses is another risk which can be easily overcome by having a good anti virus software in place to stop anything infecting your computer or server.
Another risk could identify theft which is a crime and it is done by taking and using your personal information for financial gain. But the way you can stop is asking companies that require your information how they are going to use it.
Firewalls are the first line of defense in protecting your information against unauthorized access to your network or computer, it also scans data packets going through it to detect any differences to your security scan so nothing bad is let through and gains access to your computer.
A proxy server can go between your server and the server that you are trying to access for the information and then give it to you instead going there yourself as well as remembering it and making it easier and quicker for you to go back to that same site, so it protects you from any virus that might be on that site by using the proxy instead of using your own browser.
If you need a more secure of sending and receiving data then you might need a secure socket layer so that data can be sent and it can only be accessed by knowing the second private encryption key to open it with the first being a public key know to everyone.
The other way of securing data is by having strong passwords so it makes it harder for hackers to get pass them and gain access to your personal files and any internet shopping or banking details that you might use to buy products online.
To avoid any problems you should have security software like a anti virus to keep viruses away and help maintain your computer.
You also need internet security as well as an anti virus so when using the internet you can be protected from visiting web sites that might contain unseen problems that might want to access your computer and try and infect it.
So having a good anti virus and internet security will keep you protected online from any unwanted problems like viruses and keep you safe online.
There are lots of security software available for you to buy and install onto your computer like AVG, Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee or Bull Guard and these all range in price and how many PC's it can be used on.
