Media includes every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as:
Direct mail
Fax and Internet

What Is Media?

Communication channels through which news entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated is known as media.

Media is a very powerful change agent. What we see in the television largely influences our beliefs and in turn, this also affects our behavior and how we turn out as a person.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority
PEMRA is a Country Guide to regulate the establishment and operation of all broadcast stations in the country.

According to the Pakistan electronic media regulatory authority the number of private television channels just three state-run channels in 2000, to approx. 89 in 2012.


No programs shall be aired
Which contains an abusive comment.
Contains anything defamatory or knowingly false is against basic cultural values, morality and good manners.
Contains material which is against ideology of Pakistan or Islamic values.
Contains anything pornographic, obscene or indecent or is likely to deprave, corrupt or injure the public morality.
Particular care should be taken to ensure that programs meant for children do not contain objectionable language or are disrespectful to their parents or elders.
Programs must not be directed against the sanctity of home, family and marital harmony.

No advertisement shall be permitted which
Promotes or supports sedition, anarchy or violence in country.
Is directed against sanctity or home, family and marriage.
Is wholly or mainly of a religious or political nature;
Contains indecent, vulgar, or offensive themes or treatment.
Contains material which is repugnant to ideology of Pakistan or Islamic values.
The goods or services advertised shall not suffer from any defects which are harmful to human health.
All advertisements must be clearly distinguishable as such and be separate from the programs and should not in any manner take the form of news or documentary.
Pakistan television corporation came into being under the ministry of information headed by Ubaid ur Rehman with NEC joint venture collaboration
On November 26, 1964 the first official television station PTV commenced transmission broadcasts

Television was brought under the Islamalization campaign, Heavy censorship was exercised on the media to safeguard the glory of Islam.

Responsibility of Media should be to broadcast the right news without crushing the image of the nation.

Breaking news of News channels is incomplete without sensations.

The already frightened nation of the country gets even more frightened when bomb blasts are sensationalized by showing dead bodies of people and the dramatic background music

Media is nowadays going against the Islamic teachings.
Open Issues are being discussed which should not be openly discussed
Media is spreading vulgarity
Exaggeration means describing of something and making it more than it really is.
Overwhelming negative exaggeration.

Media is essential to the health of democracy for two reasons.

Enables the citizens to make decisions about electoral choices.

It performs a checking function.

News channels played an important role in increasing voter turnout e.g. GEO news, ARY

The voter turnout has almost doubled in the latest elections

Media’s Role In Social Accountability
The ability of the citizens, civil society to scrutinize public institutions and governments and to hold them to account.

Media is developing social consciousness and actions that are essential to develop and promote social accountability.

Social media serve as a communications platform by spreading information about protest campaigns and other social movements.

It has revealed the facts to the people about crimes and social issues and also informed the people about the issues outside their country and most importantly, media has shown the behavior of other countries to the Pakistan.

Besides spreading exaggeration, Pakistani media should resolve the matters with positive attitude. Media is supposed to be responsible for the present society, trends, norms, values and so on.

Media reflects the society and it is the responsibility of media to expose the country to the whole world. It’s the requirement of time that our media should work for the positive and real soft image of Pakistan. 

Media should not use negative tools to increase their viewership. There are times when they should put their personal interests at the back of their mind and show or write things that could be beneficial for the country and please stop this race of breaking first news just be original.
